UFC veteran Eddie Alvarez has had his input on the upcoming bout between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. The former UFC lightweight champion has a rare viewpoint as he has faced both the megastars going head to head as TUF 31 coaches.
The huge fight has come about as Conor looks to make his return to action. Competing for the first time since his leg break loss against Dustin Poirier. Whilst Michael Chandler looks to continue to entertain fans with his chaotic fighting style. Putting these stars against each other on a season of TUF as coaches will be a brilliant marketing tool. Adding excitement to the eventual fight which will commence around the autumn.
Eddie Alvarez on The MMA Hour
Alvarez was speaking with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour about his recent fight announcement in Bare Knuckle FC against fellow UFC veteran Chad Mendes. When asked about the upcoming fight between McGregor and Chandler he had this to say
“It’s a mismatch because Mike Chandler’s defence sucks. He doesn’t have good defence. Boxing, he throws bombs but Conor’s way too fast and way too quick to get hit with anything Mike Chandler is throwing so I feel like I don’t know. I feel like Mike needs to wrestle him and wrestle quickly and use that and if he doesn’t, it’s gonna be a bad night for him.”
As seen in previous bouts Chandler does tend to throw caution to the wind to entertain fans. In particular against Justin Gaethje. Even with a strong wrestling background. Chandler gets into firefights landing big shots and receiving them. This enthralling tactic has left many fans leaning towards McGregor when the two meet inside the octagon, due to McGregor’s reaction speed and sensational counterstriking.
