Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr have had quite the rivalry brewing over the last few years. The two were proceeding to meet last January, but the fight didn’t happen due to Benn failing a drug test. It has led to a lot of controversy. The two will likely finally meet in the ring in December as Eddie Hearn looks to build a monumental card to finish an excellent boxing year.
Conor Benn Vs Chris Eubank Jr
Both Benn and Eubank Jr are rising stars in the boxing world, and there was a lot of hype around the fight that didn’t happen in January. Since then, Eubank Jr has had to fight Liam Smith twice. He lost the first one but was victorious in their most recent clash. Benn has just returned to action with a win in America, and a fight with Eubank Jr makes the most sense. There have also been talks about building a mega card with the likes of Anthony Joshua. It would be a sensational night of boxing and would attract many fans from around the world.
Eddie Hearn On The Card
When speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Hearn discussed putting together a card like this.
“Our side with Conor Benn and the side of Kalle Sauerland and Chris Eubank want to move forward and make that fight,” Hearn said.
“We feel that because of Conor Benn’s suspension being lifted and winning that case, he should be allowed and able to fight in the UK.
“We’re speaking to the British Boxing Board of Control. We think there’s no reason he shouldn’t be allowed to fight in the UK legally, but it’s their decision.”
A potential location for the fight is the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, and Hearn elaborated on this,
“If we are not allowed to do that, we will hold the fight internationally, but our preference, of course, is to bring that big fight to Britain,” he added.
“We also have a rather large heavyweight called Anthony Joshua who’s saying: ‘Look, if I’m not fighting Deontay Wilder in January, I would quite like to fight in December as well.’ So, we’re trying to work it all out, but quite frankly, I think it’s very unlikely that we won’t have a show on 23 December.
“Is it going to feature all of them? Is it going to feature one of them? I don’t know, but there’s a huge desire from both camps of Benn/Eubank to make that fight for 23 December.”
