Ellis Pilkington prepares to lock horns with Redgie Hingston this Saturday as On Top Promotions makes its long-awaited return for On Top 24.
The Griphouse fighter assures those attending that they can expect to get their moneys worth at the ON-X Leisure Centre in Linwood. Fresh from competing at the Four Nation tournament in Liverpool, Ellis is eager to implement the lessons he had learnt into Saturdays contest.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Ellis Pilkington before fight night to see how he’s feeling ahead of his sixth amateur bout. Read the full interview below.
Interview With Ellis Pilkington
Fight week again for you, Ellis, and you really seemed to have amped up the experience of being active on a regular basis. How much do you think you’ve improved since the last time we spoke? Is it night and day?
Yeah, competing regular has been major. In each fight, I have felt much more comfortable. Definitely made improvements in all aspects of MMA, and I am excited to show them this weekend.
On Top Fight Promotions makes its return after a long break away. You’ve yet to have competed on the show as you’re new to the game. That being said, what do you know about the show, and how much are you looking forward to adding another Griphouse fighter’s name to that list?
I know it’s a well-respected and well ran show, and I’m very happy to be competing in it.
Before we talk about Saturday, I want to touch on the Four Nations if we can. How was the experience as a whole, and what lessons have you taken away from your time in Liverpool?
Fighting on the Four Nations was a great experience. Eighteen minutes of cage time against tough opponents was super valuable. I would love to do something similar in the future.
How would you sum up your amateur career thus far if you were to sit and evaluate it?
I fight as often as possible, not really bothered about who with, and I try to keep it fun.
Pilkington Talks Preparation
What bodies have helped you the most in preparation for Redgie Hingston? Who have you got to work with the most?
I’ve been getting loads of work in with Stephen Mcbride and James Docherty. Jamie Mcglinchey’s fighting on this show, and it’s been class training with him more regularly as well, loads more but too many to name.
What are your thoughts on the fight as a whole? How do you feel you match up against one another?
I think it’ll be a good fight. Not really seen much of him, but I know he’s game.
Sell the fight to those attending. Why should we buy a ticket and watch Ellis Pilkington and Redgie Hingston throw down? What can we expect?
I’m hoping to go in and put on a clinic, but I’m prepared for a scrap. Whatever happens, it will be quality entertainment.
When you visualise the fight when you put your head on the pillow at night, how do you envision yourself getting your hand raised on Saturday night?
I’m looking to finish him. Not going to say how but the goal is to win before the end of the 3rd round.
