Elsie Walsh is a talented young junior mixed martial artist who loves training in the sport.
What started as a journey meant for self-defence and to look after herself, Elsie is now obsessed with the sport. At 9-years-old, she has aspirations of reaching the pinnacle of the sport. However, if that doesn’t work out, she has other dreams.
Training 5-6 days a week, 1-3 hours a day, Elsie’s progress was on full-display at BMF Juniors 3 where she debuted against Olivia Sefton, securing a round-two submission in the process. With one MMA fight, and two K-1’s under belt.
Ahead of her second MMA bout against Enya Fieldhouse on October 7th, we had the chance to have a word with Elsie Walsh. Hear what she had to say below.
Interview With Elsie Walsh
Firstly, What got you into training mixed martial arts?
“My mum and my dad brought me training because of problems at school. They wanted me to be able to look after myself, and no other hobby had stuck. I tried gymnastics, ballet, dancing and football, but MMA is the only one I enjoyed.”
How long have you been training, and what is your favorite thing about going to the classes and training?
“Two years. This was just kickboxing for the first year and then MMA and grappling for a year. Sparring’s my favourite part because it’s fun and I’m good at it.“
What other hobbies have you got outside of MMA? What do you like to do outside of class?
“I don’t have any other hobbies, but I enjoy making things and being outdoors with my family. “
Who’s some of your biggest inspiritations/role models? Inside our outside of the sport?
“My female coaches Megan Halliday and Amy Derwanz. I also watched a documentary called Right To Fight, and I like Sue “Tiger Lilly” Fox. And I like Shanelle Dyer from The Good Fight Collective. “
Dreams
What is your dream? Inside/Outside the sport?
“I want to be in the UFC. If I’m not a fighter I want to be a vet. “
Finally, tell the readers what exciting things they can expect to see from you on fight night?
“They will see a new dance move when I win.“
