Erin Blanchfield isn’t wasting any time in calling out the top contenders. Fresh off a solid win over Rose Namajunas, Blanchfield is now setting her sights on Alexa Grasso. After beating a former two-time UFC women’s strawweight champion, she’s hungry for a bigger test. Her next target? Another former titleholder who’s been a dominant figure in the flyweight division.
Blanchfield’s recent victory was a unanimous decision that showcased her strength and strategy against Namajunas, and now she’s looking ahead to 2025, hoping to face Grasso. The potential matchup could be an exciting showdown for fans, and Blanchfield seems confident that she’s ready to take it on.
In the UFC Edmonton post-fight press conference, Blanchfield shared her thoughts on facing Grasso and explained what motivates her to go after this particular fight.
Erin Blanchfield Calls Out Alexa Grasso at UFC Edmonton
“I think she already said something that she would love to take that fight, so I think it’s going to happen,” Blanchfield said, hopeful about the possibility of stepping into the octagon with Grasso.
Grasso’s reputation as a skilled boxer is one of the reasons Blanchfield sees her as an ideal opponent. Comparing the potential fight with her recent match against Namajunas, she sees Grasso as a similar test.
“She’s another great boxer just like Rose is,” Blanchfield explained, “I could see it being similar.”
Blanchfield added that all of her past fights have led her to this point. For her, each victory and lesson learned along the way has prepared her for a bout with a competitor of Grasso’s caliber.
“I feel like all my fights that I’ve had have led me up to that point,” Blanchfield shared, “Fighting against these levels of opponents will really set me up.”
Blanchfield Focused on Ultimate Goal
But Blanchfield isn’t just interested in any opponent; she wants a challenge that pushes her closer to her ultimate goal. She doesn’t want to fight fighters who she feels may not reach the top themselves.
“I don’t want to fight people that are not necessarily going to ever be champs themselves,” she clarified, “I feel like that’s not going to give me the experience I need. That’s why I called someone out, someone like Alexa.”
Alexa Grasso last fought at UFC 306, where she lost the women’s flyweight title to Valentina Shevchenko in a unanimous decision after their third meeting. With Grasso currently holding the number one spot in the flyweight rankings, she remains a prime target for Blanchfield, who is sitting close behind at number three.
Blanchfield’s track record is solid, boasting a 7-1 record in her UFC career so far. Her only loss has come under the UFC banner, and she’s quickly risen through the ranks with an impressive showing of skills and resilience. Whether she’ll capture the UFC title remains to be seen, but her confidence and determination are evident.
The potential matchup with Grasso could even serve as a title eliminator if UFC matchmakers see it that way. Both fighters are in prime positions in the rankings, and a win for either could catapult them to a title shot. It’s the kind of high-stakes fight that Blanchfield is clearly eager for, and she’s hopeful it will materialize sooner rather than later.
