UFC welterweight Adam Fugitt predicts his UFC 289 fight against Mike Malott will be a fight-of-the-year contender.
The promotion returns to Canada for the first time since 2019 with a card headlined by Amanda Nunes, she faces Irene Aldana for the UFC bantamweight championship. In the co-main event, Charles Oliveira returns to take on Beneil Dariush in a fight that will determine the next challenger for Islam Makhachev’s lightweight gold.
In the main card feature fight, Adam Fugitt goes up against hometown favourite Mike Malott.
Both men are coming off of impressive stoppage victories and Fugitt believes the bout has fight-of-the-year potential. The 34-year-old discussed the matchup in an exclusive interview with Combat Sports UK.
He said: “It’s hard for me to say if there’s any one area that either one of us have an advantage over.
“I almost feel like we’re fighting ourselves, if I go out there and I put the best version of myself in there then I have no doubt that I’m gonna come out with the W.
“If he goes in there and puts the best version of himself in there up against me we’re gonna have probably a potential fight-of-the-year candidate. We’re both finishers, we’re looking for the finish.”

The Canadian is a high-rated prospect who has won all nine of his fights via stoppage. He trains out of Team Alpha Male in Sacramento but will no doubt have the support of the home crowd when he faces Fugitt.
On his opponent, Fugitt said: “Me and my girlfriend ended up catching his [last] fight. It was like a week or two after my [UFC] Apex fight and I remember sitting on the couch and I swear I was like ‘This is gonna be the guy, they’re gonna end up calling me to fight this guy’.
“It’s gonna be a hell of a fight, I feel like we do a lot of the same things, we’re very similar. I like to put on a show, he likes to finish fights so we’re gonna meet in the middle.”
