Fury FC are returning on Sunday to put on Fury FC 94. This weekend will see the middleweight title on the line. Adam Vigil will face off against Ty Gwerder in the main event for the belt. Ty Gwerder is getting this opportunity off the back of back-to-back defeats in other promotions. Jordan Wright was originally scheduled to face off against Adam Vigil however, he had to withdraw due to injury. Adam Vigil is coming in off the back of 5 victories in a row with 3 coming in Fury FC. Combat Sports UK has been able to speak to fighters ahead of their fights to try and see how they are feeling going into the fight. Combat Sports UK was able to speak to Adam Vigil ahead of his title fight against Ty Gwerder.
Adam Vigil on His Last Fight
Adam Vigil was able to get the victory in his last fight against Iván Valenzuela. This victory came due to a unanimous decision and was the win which was able to secure a title fight. I was able to speak to Adam Vigil to see how he thought this fight went and was able to see what he has improved on since. Speaking about this fight Adam responded by saying;
“I went into that fight with a broken finger and a couple other injuries. So we had to make some adjustments in that for sure. I was disappointed with that performance, and I plan to showcase entirely different fighter in this fight.”
Adam was coming into this fight with injuries so was not coming into this fight 100%. This could have impacted his performance and could have meant he lost due to not being able to use all the tools at his disposal. While he was not happy with the performance of the fight he can put it down to the injuries he was coming into the fight with. Adam is coming into this fight injury-free and is ready to showcase his true ability when he goes to try and capture the belt.
Success in the Fight
While he wasn’t happy with the performance in the last fight the main part is he was able to get the victory. I was curious to see what Adam Vigil thought he had the most success with. While he was not happy Adam Vigil spoke about what he thought he did the most successfully when he explained;
“The things I did well was make adjustments and adapt and keep the pressure when I was on top.”
Adam Vigil feels the things he did the best were the adjustments he made in the fight. Adam came into this fight with injuries so had to shake things up as he couldn’t fight exactly how he wanted. However, he is pleased with how successful this shake-up was and how he was always able to keep the pressure on his opponent when he was able to get on top.
Change of Opponent
Adam is going to face Ty Gwerder on Sunday for the title. However, this was not always the case as Jordan Wright was his original opponent for the belt. I was able to ask Adam if he was disappointed that Jordan Wright had to pull out of the fight. Speaking about what he thought he said;
“Jordan Wright is a good fighter as well and unfortunately He got injured. I hope he bounces back quickly. I know that the fighter that’s going to step into the cage with me on the 21st is the fighter that I was meant to fight anyway so I can’t control who’s in there with me only the work that I put into my camp.”
Adam Vigil is disappointed that Jordan Wright isn’t able to fight this weekend against him and he wishes him the best and for a speedy recovery. However, Adam isn’t able to control who he fights on Sunday he can only make sure he is ready for a fight. Adam is concerned about his development and his game plan more than who he is fighting. As long as there is an opponent for him to fight he doesn’t care who it is. The only thing Adam Vigil will care about is the performance in the fight.
Training Camp
Before a fight goes ahead a fighter will go into a training camp to be able to create the best possible game plan. Fighters will go back and watch the tape to be able to find out the best path to victory. Fighters will also be able to work on things their opponent may be weak at as well as fill in any holes inside their own game. I was able to ask Adam how his training camp had gone for this fight coming up. Explaining how camp has gone he responded by saying;
“This training camp has been amazing. I’m excited to showcase the best version of me as a fighter and man and every possible way. I think Ty is a good fighter. Have nothing bad to say about him. I just think I am better in every aspect and plan to show it every way.”
Adam has nothing bad to say about his opponent however, is confident with this training camp he will be able to showcase the best version of himself. Adam believes this is the best he has ever looked at and can’t wait to showcase to the world all the improvements he has made in his game.
Did the Change of Opponent Affect the Training Camp?
I was curious to know if the change of opponent had changed any of the training camps he was currently on. This could be due to Ty Gwerder being stronger in areas where Jordan was weak or vice versa. Speaking about the impact Adam said;
“The change of opponent has not affected me at all as this is my third opponent for this fight. All I can do is work hard and stay focused.”
Adam revealed this change was not the only one which happened in this title fight. This is the 3rd opponent he has faced so he has focused more on filling in any holes he has to be able to put on the best performance. Adam doesn’t care who he faces all he cares about is putting on the best performance he can. Adam is focused and is confident he can showcase to the world the best version of himself.
How Does Adam Vigil See This Fight Going
Going into a fight every fighter will have some sort of an idea of how this fight is going to go. However, this may not always be the case with the Zack Borrego fight against Jordan Wright. However, while this may not go the way they thought they still had some sort of an idea of how the fight is going to go. Speaking about how he sees this fight going and if he had a prediction he explained;
“Always go for the knockout, but I’m ready for 25 minutes of war if needed.”
Adam Vigil is going into this fight and planning on not needing the judge’s scorecards. He is planning on being able to knock out Ty Gwerder however, is making sure he is prepared if this fight is to go the distance. If Adam just plans for a knockout he may get tired later on and give Ty an opportunity to be able to get the belt himself. However, Adam is ready to go to war and doesn’t see the scorecards being needed.
Who Is Next for Adam Vigil?
I was wondering if there was a fight that Adam Vigil had in mind if he is able to go out there on Sunday and be able to get the victory. This could be a fight against Jordan Wright once he has been able to heal up from his injury. It could be a rematch against Logan Woods as he was the person to hand Adam Vigil his only defeat as a pro. Explaining his future plans Adam said;
“First task in hand is win this fight And go from there. I don’t care who I fight after I win this belt”
Adam is not looking past Ty and isn’t planning any future fights before handling business. This is a smart move as being too preoccupied with other fights might lead to you not giving this fight his full attention. This might mean he missed something out to be able to give him that victory on the day and mean he doesn’t leave with the title.
Fury FC as a Whole
I was able to ask Adam how he thought about Fury FC. Adam has competed in some of the biggest organisations in the world including the likes of LFA and Bellator. I was curious to see how Fury FC would compare to these other organisations. Explaining what he thought since this is his 4th fight Adam explained;
” I love fury and everything it’s done for me and my career. From the commentators and staff and working with Eric Garcia has been a blessing.”
Adam is enjoying his time in Fury FC which is always what you are looking for as you don’t want to be fighting for a company that is not treating you right. You hear of some organisations like PFL not being the best to its fighters like how they handled the Gegard Mousasi situation. However, it is always good to hear about organisations that are able to take care of its fighters.
UFC Shot
I was able to see if Adam Vigil thought that he deserved a UFC shot or even a DWCS shot after a victory. Adam would move up to 10-1 and be on a 6-fight win streak. Speaking about if he thought he deserved a shot he explained;
“I’ve been interviewed for the UFC ultimate fighter show already as well as almost got called to contender last year. Now I have more wins and finishes so I know I am almost there. All I can do is stay focused on the journey. God has Place before me and winning like I know I can.”
Adam has already had contact from Dana White before and was so close to being able to take part last year. This being the case he has only gone on to improve so if he was close last time surely he is not over the edge. We will have to wait and see if he is able to clinch the title first but he is definitely getting closer and closer with each win he gets.
