UFC lightweight Alex Reyes has claimed he will ‘break’ Natan Levy when he returns to the octagon at Noche UFC.
Reyes has been inactive since a 2017 loss to Mike Perry in his UFC debut. Various injuries sidelined ‘The Executioner’ but he is now set to return on September 16 against Levy at Noche UFC, exactly six years since his last fight.
31-year-old Levy is 2-1 inside the UFC since earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2020, boasting an 8-1 record overall.
He said: “I think it’s an exciting fight. This kid’s super tough, super durable, exciting, a lot of big stuff. I’m excited to get in there and share the octagon with him.
“He’s coming off of a two-fight win streak and I’m always up for a challenge and I feel that I have what it takes to beat him, to break him and to go out there and get the finish. That’s how I fight, I fight for the finish.
“If you look at my record, I don’t look for the decision, I don’t look for the grind, I look to get in there and take you out as quick as I can. First round, second round, third round, I fight to finish – that’s just what I do. If not, we go out on the shield.”
The 36-year-old went on to discuss how he sees the bout with the Israeli going.
He stated: “I envision going out there and putting it on this guy and picking him apart and finishing him, whether it be on the feet or the ground.
“He can pick his poison, I don’t like to force anything, I like to go in there and just flow. I’m excited to get back in there man, it’s been six years to the day!”
Reyes Discusses Plans For Rest of 2023
Reyes’ health problems initially started when he contracted E. coli via a stem cell injection, leading to a devastating spinal infection. Doctors told him in 2018 he may never walk again but he is currently defying the odds amid a long-awaited UFC return.
His return was supposed to come earlier this year against Trevor Peek but an injury to his hand ligaments forced him to delay his comeback further. However, the exciting knockout artist hasn’t entirely been out of the loop when it comes to the UFC, cornering fan-favourite Bobby Green on occasion.
The Californian is looking to make up for lost time following his upcoming clash, saying he will be ready for another matchup before 2023 is done.
He said: “I would like to get another in this year, you know what I mean. We’ll just see how things play out and I’ll just be in good contact with my management and after this fight just be ready to go for the next one.
“Maybe a short notice [fight] or if something falls out, I’ll just be ready, I’m gonna be ready, ready to get back in there.”
