Charles Johnson has warned his upcoming opponent Cody Durden ahead of their matchup on April 29, promising to “break his f*cking face”.
Johnson and Durden will meet inside the octagon this Saturday after months of back and forth on social media.
The flyweight bout will take place on the prelims of UFC Vegas 72: Song vs Simon and ‘InnerG’ is looking forward to making Durden eat his words.
32-year-old Johnson spoke to James Lynch in an exclusive interview for Combat Sports UK where he described how the fight will play out.
He said: “I’m gonna hurt Cody Durden. I’m putting something on him and I’m gonna break his f*cking face.
“He’s done a lot of talking. I’m a fun guy man and I like getting into social media spats, that makes this more fun. I like living up to the talk and making you prove your words.
“I’m definitely gonna break your sh*t. I’m breaking his will and I’m breaking his face.”
Johnson on the Matchup With Durden
However, despite the harsh words to his opponent, the former LFA champion also gave credit to Durden’s fight style.
“He’s gonna come, I love how he fights. I love eccentricity, I love that he’s a scrapper, he’s very competitive and it’s gonna fit well with my style.
“I like fighting that type of fight too, you get a lot of guys that like to blitz and play away [but] I don’t think I’ll have that with him. I’ll have chances to put my hands on him, I’ll have an opportunity to wrestle, it’s gonna be a lot of scrambling, it’s going to be a lot of back and forth and I’m very excited about this fight because of that.”
“When I look at Cody and I look at who he’s fought, he’s on a two-fight win streak, he’s looked great in his last two fights and he has a lot of confidence coming into this fight and understandably so – good for him.
“But I’m coming to f*ck him up. Point blank period.”
Johnson on Feud With Durden
Both mutual opponents of British prospect Muhammad Mokaev, Johnson said that the feud started after his own fight with Mokaev.
“It started, I’m assuming, around the [Muhammad] Mokaev fight.”
He carried on to explain that a simple tweet caused Durden to reply.
He said: “I didn’t tag anyone I was just putting something out for the fans.
“I was like ‘Who do you guys think would be a good matchup?’, and he [Durden] was one of the names that I listed. [There was also] Tim Elliott, [Tagir] Ulanbekov, and Tyson Nam.
“Then he [Durden] made a slick comment and from that moment on I was like ‘Okay, if you want to fight, we can fight.’”
The rivalry escalated from there and the pair will clash this weekend inside the UFC octagon.
