Dustin Poirier’s teammate Chris Duncan has given his prediction ahead of the BMF title fight at UFC 291 on July 29.
Poirier will face Justin Gaethje for the BMF belt at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The title was introduced in 2019 for the highly anticipated fight between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. Masvidal defeated Diaz via TKO (doctor stoppage) to become the first-ever BMF, short for baddest motherf*cker.
Due to ‘Gamebred’s’ retirement, the title is up for grabs once again with Poirier and Gaethje set to give the fans a rematch of their 2018 war for the one-of-a-kind title.
‘The Diamond’s’ teammate, Chris Duncan, who trains with him at American Top Team has given his prediction for the fight in an exclusive interview with Combat Sports UK.
He said: “I think it’ll be either [a] third or fourth-round TKO by Dustin. I’ve sparred with a lot of people in my time, I sparred with Dustin [and] he’s one of the fittest guys I know.
“He’s got a gas tank, he’s got heart, he’s got the full package and Dustin’s took it upon himself to help me and I have to help him and I’m very appreciative of that.
“People don’t realise how good Dustin Poirier is, you watch the guy training in the room [and] it’s fantastic to watch. The guy is such a good, crafty veteran in the UFC that I don’t see Justin putting a hand on him. Justin is very wild whereas Dustin is very calculated but also knows when he can put it on you so I’m looking forward to it.
“I definitely see a third or fourth-round TKO by Dustin.”
Chris Duncan on Training at American Top Team With UFC 291 Headliner
Duncan initially moved in 2019 to train at ATT however the Covid-19 pandemic halted his plans, forcing him to delay his move to the coveted gym.
There are many other elite talents aside from Poirier that have spent their careers at the Florida-based MMA academy. Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Jorge Masvidal, and Kayla Harrison to name a few.
The Scotsman agreed that the availability of high-quality training partners, coaching, and being in a new environment are some of the benefits to training of Dan Lambert’s gym.
He said: “Getting up in the morning and already being in the gym is a massive deal, you can’t hide from it, there’s no excuse to miss training.
“I’m training with number one [ranked lightweight] Dustin Poirier, top ten, [ranked lightweight] my friend, Grant Dawson and all these guys that are just top of the tier. Being able to go in and hang with these guys shows that I’m on the road to do great things.
“I’ve still got a lot of work to do but the guys know that I always work hard and I always put the effort in. Nothing bad can come of that, only good things can come of that.
“Also, Mike Brown – he’s really took it upon himself to help me out loads. Learning from those guys, learning from the guys that have all done it and done it there before has been a massive thing for me.”
