Former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira took the time to speak to Combat Sports UK’s own Patrick McCorry about UFC 300, Yousri Belgaroui’s title win at Levels Fight League 11, and possible grappling matchups for the future.
The UFC legend became the oldest first time champion in UFC history back in October 2021 at 42-years-old. He now coaches current UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira along with Levels Fight League title holder Yousri Belgaroui.
Former UFC Champion Glover Teixeira on UFC 300 Main Event: Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill
The main event for UFC 300 has been announced. Alex Pereira will defend his title against former champion Jamahal Hill. When asked about Pereira’s game plan for Hill, Teixeira exuded confidence.
“The game plan is turn up and knock him out. This is it, easy,” said Teixeira with a smile.
Teixeira went on to talk about previous opponent Hill and what makes him a special fighter.
“He’s a great fighter you know? Good on the ground, he’s athletic, he’s got great boxing, good power and he’s a young guy in the game. He’s a good fighter it’s just Alex’s striking is in a different dimension and his wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu is getting so good in every fight. It’s too much for Jamahal,” he said.
The UFC 300 main event is guaranteed to be an action-packed fight.
Yousri Belgaroui
Teixeira was asked how he felt after Belgaroui’s title win at LFL 11.
He said: “I feel great man. I love it, you know? Yousri, he was sharp tonight.
“I thought Yousri was going to put him out in the second or third you know, and he did and put him down but [his opponent Ahmed Sami] is tough as nails. He kept coming back and shout out to him.”
Belgaroui eventually won the fight by unanimous decision.
Teixeira Talks Grappling
The Brazilian did not rule out more grappling competitions in the future when asked about his plans:
“I’ll grapple, whatever, you know? I like to have fun. It depends on the name, you’ve just got to give me a good matchup. Pay me a little bit of money and I go over there and have some fun,” said Teixeira.
When pressed for names, Teixeira said: “Any guys my age and a big name in Jiu-Jitsu or UFC, you know, like I did it with Anthony Smith.”
