OKTAGON bantamweight Gustavo Lopez has expressed his excitement to take Beno Adamia to ‘deep waters’ at OKTAGON 47.
Lopez takes on the Georgian this weekend in Bratislava, Slovakia – his third outing with the rising European promotion.
The 34-year-old is coming off of a knockout loss in April to Jonas Magard as he looks to bounce back against Adamia.
Lopez’s opponent endured a tough start to his professional career, enduring three-fight losing streaks on two separate occasions. However, he now finds himself unbeaten in his last four fights ahead of his promotional debut on Saturday.
The American discussed his opponent’s recent run of form in an exclusive interview with Combat Sports UK.
He said: “I’m sure he is, going on a little win streak always helps people’s confidence. But the bad thing about that is when you go to a different level against someone else, you might feel really confident until you get hit and taken down and then you can’t get up and then it’s gonna be an issue.
“My fighting style is that I love to drown people. I like putting people in deep waters and then when they think they’re getting up, pull them deeper and deeper. I’m excited for it.”
Lopez on His Reasons for Signing With OKTAGON
Lopez was released from the UFC early last year following an inconsistent stint with the company. He won one fight, drew one fight, and suffered two defeats against Adrian Yanez and Merab Dvalishvili – the latter of whom he is training with for his upcoming fight.
He then took over a year away from the sport before making the jump to Europe when he signed for OKTAGON, a geographical switch that he welcomed with open arms.
The Xtreme Couture fighter discussed his reasons for the switch to OKTAGON.
He said: “Actually, my manager already has some connections over here. Some of the other fighters from Danny Rubenstein’s group fight for OKTAGON, so I think it was just the right opportunity at the right time.
“I think [Magard] broke his jaw or something like that, and I was the replacement. Magard and I are actually managed by the same promotion, the same manager.
“So it was like, one of his dudes came out, ‘Hey, we have another 35-er that just got out of the UFC’. [I was] kinda looking for a fight and it just, you know, short-notice fight, I’m usually the guy they call, just things like that. I’m always ready.”
