UFC bantamweight Marcus McGhee is planning to “find the finish” when he faces JP Buys this weekend at UFC Vegas 78.
He made his UFC debut on short notice in April, submitting Journey Newson in the second round. The 33-year-old now finds himself himmatched with Buys after his original opponent, Gaston Bolaños, withdrew.
McGhee has a 100% across his professional and amateur career and plans to add to this in his next fight with 27-year-old South African.
He said: “I think I just need to be present, and fight my fight.
“I think that wherever the fight goes, I can be dominant in that position. That’s not to discount the fact that he’s [Buys] really good, I just know I am too. I have the skill sets, I have the skill set on the ground, I have the skill set standing up.
“I just need to be present, make sure I’m making good decisions and I plan to find the finish – that’s always what I’m trying to do.
“Preferably a knockout, but if I can get a submission, that sounds great. I wanna finish fights and I wanna push the pace so that’s my plan.”

McGhee trains at MMA Lab out of Glendale, Arizona among some of the best fighters in the world. The gym has bred multiple title contenders in the past few years in Jared Cannonier and Sean O’Malley.
‘The Maniac’ detailed his sparring rounds with multiple different opponents ahead of the bout on Saturday at the UFC Apex.
He said: “We have so many guys, we do crazy amounts of sparring rounds and Ben’s [Henderson] been having us do straight hour and a half, no rounds off sparring. And some rounds are harder and less harder but, I mean [we’ve got] Kyler Phillips, that’s my best friend and me and him go together constantly.
“Abdul Kamara, Ezra [Elliott], Mario [Bautista], Suga [Sean O’Malley], An [Tuan Ho]. We have so many guys that we’re going with every single day, Chance Ikei – he just turned pro, he’s doing really great. Just so many guys I can keep on naming – Jared [Cannonier].
“We are just constantly working together, I don’t get a day off, I don’t get a day of relax. All of these guys bring the heat every single day.”
