Fury FC hosted Fury FC 91 last Sunday 9th April 2024. Paris Moran was able to defend his Fury FC flyweight title when he defeated Freddie Rodriguez. Paris Moran was able to get the victory due to a submission in the 2nd round. Fury FC is returning this weekend when Jomar Pa-ac takes on Nick Piccininni in the main event. Before his upcoming fight against Chuy Lopez, Combat Sports UK was able to speak to Micah White. We were able to speak about how his training camp has gone as well as how he handles the pressure from fans.
Micah White Reflects On How it felt to clinch the Fury FC Amateur Series Title
During his amateur career, Micah White was able to clinch the Fury FC amateur series title. Becoming the champion means you are the best in the organisation and this is the goal for many fighters. Micah was able to clinch this title with a rear naked choke in the first round against Joe Perez. I was able to ask Micah White about how it felt when he was able to become the champion and eventually defend the belt. Micah White responded by saying;
“It was great to become champion and reach the best amongst my division of fighters”
Micah was finally able to reach the goal many fighters are looking to achieve to be recognised as one of the best. Every fighter trains to become the champion and every fighter believes they are the best in the organisation. However, Micah was finally able to be recognised as being the best with that title victory.
About His Fight against Angelo Trujillo
Last time out in the octagon Micah was able to make his pro debut under Fury FC promotion. This professional debut came against Angelo Trujillo who was coming into this fight with a 2-4 record. Micah was able to get the victory due to a rear naked choke in the first round to start his professional career off the right way. I was able to ask Micah how he thought the fight went and what improvements he had made since that fight. Micah responded by saying;
“It was great to finally get my pro debut under my belt. There’s no other way to truly get the experience other than doing it”
This shows that the best thing you can take from any fight is the experience. This is because you can’t replicate the atmosphere of the fans during the fight. This shows that Micah is improving in every aspect including being able to handle the pressure come fight night.
Training Camp
For a fighter, another massive need is for a good training camp. This is due to fighters generating their gameplan, being able to learn new things as well. If a fighter can have a good training camp then they feel good going into the fight. This can give them a good advantage. I was able to ask White about how his training camp has been going. Not only that but if he has been able to see anything from Lopez he would be able to take advantage of. White was able to respond by saying;
“camp has been really good I feel like I am better in every aspect of fighting and I can succeed in wherever I want this fight to go.”
This shows that Micah has been able to have a good camp and good preparation before this fight. Micah believes this fight camp will allow him to go in there with a plan to be able to control this fight. Micah will be able to go in there and execute his plan. This will allow him to determine where this fight ends up. White believes that not only does he believe he can determine where this fight will end up. However, he believes he has been able to improve his skill to be able to be successful wherever the fight goes.
Micah White on How He Handles Pressure from Fans
As MMA fans we want to see stoppages like Max Holloway against Justin Gathje at UFC 300 every fight. However, this can’t always be the case due to either going into the 3rd round and being up 2-0 on the scorecards. This being the case Micah is going to have to handle the pressure of fans wanting a highlight reel finish in every fight. Explaining how he handles this pressure Micah explained by saying
“I don’t let it get to me at the end of the day I have my supporters and my fans that are loyal to me regardless it’s more of meeting my own expectations for my self and what I know I am capable of”
Micah understands that fans may want a highlight reel finish in every fight however, he doesn’t let this get to him. He knows he has his true fans supporting him going into every fight and that is what matters the most. Micah also knows that he has to meet his expectations going into each fight instead of the fans as it is his expectations which matter the most.
Handling the Pressure of Becoming the Champion
After Micah became the Fury FC amateur series flyweight champion he went from hunting the title to being hunted due to holding the title. This comes with its pressure as everyone is now wanting to fight you to take the title off. Explaining this pressure White explained.
“It was great I knew I was one of the best amateurs in Texas so officially having that title and having that target on my back I was prepared and ready to prove that.”
Micah understands that he was going to have that target on his back when he got that title. He knew in his mind that he was one of the best amateur fighters around. Now that title he was able to clinched proved he was the best. Micah has believed this since he took his first fight. He had been prepared for this moment and he understood what was required from him.
What Will Happen Next?
Micah will be hoping he can go out there and get the victory against Angelo Trujillo. Not only is he looking to get a victory but he is looking to put on an impressive victory as well to improve his reputation and get the biggest name next time out. I was able to ask Micah White if he had anyone in mind who he wanted to face. Explaining what he is hoping for after this fight White said;
“No one specific in mind I just take it one fight at a time and trust my team”
There isn’t anyone specific in mind for Micah to face next. Micah will take on anyone Fury FC can give him. Micah has faith in his team to be able to get the right plan together to be able to get the victory. Thinking about the future I followed this up by asking if he thought he was close to being able to get a title shot or a call-up to Dana White’s Contenders Series. Explaining what he thought White responded by saying;
“I feel like if god willing everything goes according to plan in the next 2 years or so my name will be in the hat for the next contender series or UFC shot.”
Dana White’s Contender Series is coming back very soon. A lot of prospects will be coming on to try and win a UFC contract. Micah believes he will be able to get his name in the hat for the next series. This can only happen if he can keep performing and getting the correct results.
