Miranda Maverick has admitted she is looking for an eventual rematch with Maycee Barber if she can win her scheduled bout at UFC 289.
Maverick takes on Jasmine Jasudavicius this weekend in the UFC’s return to Canada. And while she isn’t looking past her Canadian opponent, the 25-year-old wants to avenge a controversial loss on her record.
She faced Maycee Barber back in 2021 and suffered a split decision loss, the first defeat in her UFC career.
The Missouri native revealed she has already asked for the fight twice since, and hopes it happens eventually.
Maverick spoke to Combat Sports UK in an exclusive interview. She said: “I’ve been trying to get that fight back since the day it happened.
“She’s already turned down two rematches, or at least the matchmakers have for her. One was short notice and they cancelled the whole fight and I was like ‘Hmm, alright fine’.
“I was gonna ask for it after this fight and really kind of push the envelope but now she has a fight scheduled for July which is really convenient for her.
“But, I do hope that fight happens eventually – if I was her I wouldn’t want the fight either, what benefit is it for her. She already lost once and she probably knows that and I’ve been doing nothing but improving since.”
Miranda Maverick on UFC 289 Matchup Against Jasmine Jasudavicius
First though, Maverick has to get past Jasudavicius. She will be going into enemy territory to face the 34-year-old, who has won two out of her three UFC bouts since winning on Dana White’s Contender Series back in 2021.
Maverick said: “She’s used to being the one that pushes forward, you see that a lot.
“She puts people against the cage a lot, I’ve been working on that non-stop. That’s been a weakness in the past and I’m sure she’ll try to exploit that.
“Ever since the Maycee Barber fight when she held me against the cage for part of round three, that hasn’t been a problem for me.
“I’ve been focused on that a lot within my training. I’ve been going against a lot of training partners that are much larger than me, working on it, working on it.
“I think that’s the one spot where she has the opportunity to beat me, just making it a boring grind fight against the cage.
“My strength is gonna be way more than she expects. I think my striking is gonna be faster, more powerful, much more versatile than her own.
“And, I don’t see her fighting any grapplers really and I think she’s gonna be really surprised about how little her grappling works against a grappler, which is me.”
