Undefeated UK prospect Norbert Novenyi Jr. says he is looking forward to breaking his opponent’s face on a stacked Bellator 297 card.
The event takes place on June 16 at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois. The card includes two huge title fights as well as a stacked undercard.
In the co-main event, Patricio Pitbull looks to become a three-weight world champion when he faces Sergio Pettis for the bantamweight championship. In the evening’s top fight, former UFC title challenger Yoel Romero goes up against Vadim Nemkov for the light heavyweight crown.
Novenyi Jr.’s bout takes place as the sixth prelim of the night, he fights Kamil Oniszczuk in a middleweight scrap.
The 23-year-old has only competed once since 2020 due to the pandemic and various injuries. He spoke to Combat Sports UK in an exclusive interview where he discussed fighting on such a momentous occasion.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to it, it’s a big fight as well.
“I can’t wait to be fair, it’s good to be back fighting in the States again. Last time I fought there was in 2019.
“I’m looking forward to it but, to me, it’s all the same. Every single fight is the same, it’s not gonna make that much difference so I’m just looking forward to breaking this guy’s face.”
Norbert Novenyi Jr. on Support Ahead of Bellator 297
The son of an Olympic gold medalist, Novenyi Jr. was born in Hungary before moving to England as a teenager.
He now lives and trains in the UK out of London Shootfighters, home of Michael Venom Page.
Due to holding dual nationality, ‘Magic’ receives support from multiple countries. During the interview, he spoke about the support that he receives.
Jokingly, he said: “I feel like it’s very similar between the UK and Hungary. I definitely get more hate from Hungary, I don’t know why.
“They’re too patriotic in my opinion, if I say something in English and I don’t say it in Hungarian they get mad.
“Even though I’ve got the Hungarian flag behind me on a big, big screen, but I don’t walk out with the Hungarian flag I’ll get sh*t for that as well so they’re a bit over the top.”
Novenyi Jr. continued: “But it’s very nice to get support from them, I don’t mind where I get it from. If I get it, it’s just amazing and I’m just happy wherever it comes from, whether it’s the UK, Hungary.
“It’s mad, most of my followers are actually from Brazil and the United States so I appreciate all the support.”
