A huge showdown between Stevie ‘Braveheart’ Ray and former UFC champion Anthony Pettis goes down this Friday in PFL 5’s co-main event at the OTE Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.
Scotsman Stevie Ray (23-10-0) has a massive fight ahead of him, as he looks to bring home some points in the PFL’s Regular Season 2022. He returns after a unanimous decision loss against Alex Martinez back in April, however, the previous form goes out of the window in this one, as Stevie is out to make a massive statement against one of the toughest in his division in his path to a grand $1 million prize.
Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis (25-12-0) comes into this one after a dominant 1st round triangle choke wins over Myles Price. The win earned him 6 points on the PFL’s lightweight leaderboard. He too has the same aims as Stevie in earning a massive $1 million dollar prize come to the end of this tournament.
Combat Sports UK’s James Lynch was able to grab Stevie for an exclusive interview ahead of this matchup.
Steven Ray Interview: Quotes
Stevie speaks on what he learnt from the previous Martinez loss:
“I feel like I gave the fight away, I feel like it was a fight I could have and should have won… maybe it was the time off that did that.”
Stevie gives his thoughts on his opponent:
“Yeah, he’s been around forever, he’s been the UFC champion, been in there with some of the biggest names ever. That being said I feel like I could submit him, I could knock him out.”
Stevie on whether the pressure is on him or Pettis more:
“I don’t think the pressure is on either of us too much. For me anyway, it’s a fight where most people are expecting me to lose. Those types of fights, those are the fights I feel like I excel in.”
How Stevie feels the fight could go:
“I can see me finishing him within two rounds if it goes the way I’m hoping it’s gonna go. I would be happy with a decision win as well, happy enough with the fact that I’ve just beat former UFC champ.”
