Amateur prospect Youcef Whitelaw has said upcoming opponent Caleb Mullin does not have ‘much brains’ ahead of their matchup at BMF 7.
The fight with Mullin will be the first of two in a matter of weeks for Whitelaw, who will also face Islam Amish on 21 October at Caestus MMA in Scotland.
The Scotsman has had a successful start to his amateur career, with back-to-back unanimous decisions earlier this year.
On his first opponent, he said: “He’s like a, sort of, long [and] rangy striker but I don’t think he’s got much brains.
“He does nice stuff, he looks good but watching his previous fights I don’t think he’s got the best IQ. On paper [it’s a step up], but it’s amateur – everybody’s sh*te.”
He also went on to discuss his busy schedule.
“Well, that would’ve been my fourth fight in six months, that one on October 21st. I only made my debut in April!
“I think that’s good activity, I want to keep that going forward [but] that’ll probably be my last fight this year. Maybe look to go again in March.”
Whitelaw Discusses Daily Atmosphere at Higher Level Martial Arts
Whitelaw trains out of Higher Level Martial Arts in Whitburn, Scotland – the gym notably home to Paul Craig, Stevie Ray, and Mark Ewen.
Craig, a top-ranked UFC middleweight, has an upcoming main event against Brendan Allen on 18 November. Meanwhile, Mark Ewen recently marked his Bellator debut in Dublin with a second-round knockout.
The gym has made big strides in recent years and Whitelaw spoke about the day-to-day atmosphere at Higher Level.
He said: “It’s buzzing in the gym mate, buzzing! Nothing really changes, everybody’s high on life at Higher Level, we’ve all got big plans.
“It’s not as if we’re sitting there doing mental reps or anything like that. I think people do that in their own time, I know a lot of the boys meditate and that.
“My brain’s constantly ticking, I’m constantly thinking about things but we’re not in there preparing mentally. We’re just training hard.”
