The brother of the former welterweight champion, Fabian Edwards believes Conor McGregor poses no threat to his sibling.
Michael Chandler vs. Conor McGregor is off for the time being and the Irishman is desperate for a fight. What he will need first however, is a new opponent, and a date pencilled in the calender.
One of the names on the table for his return to the Octagon is Birmingham’s Leon Edwards.
Edwards lost his UFC welterweight title to Belal Muhammad in July. Prior to this there were talks regarding a fight between McGregor and Edwards.
Fabian Edwards on Leon Edwards vs. Conor McGregor Fight
Former Bellator contender Fabian Edwards, brother to Leon, is a force to be reckoned with in the middleweight division,
‘The Assassin’ spoke to talkSPORT ahead of his PFL debut on October 19th – giving a frank outlook on the matchup.
“Obviously once he gets that title back, why not (fight McGregor), obviously respect to what he’s done but Conor is just a money fight. Conor’s a money fight.”
Edwards proceeded to give McGregor his flowers before stamping out any idea of a competitive fight.
“With respect, he’s done what he’s done years ago and he’ll never get back to that stage. But if him and my brother were to fight, come on, he’d get smashed up, look how small he is, come on man.”
Edward’s dismissal of ‘The Notorious’ at this point in time mirrors the notion of many other fighters.
Regardless, a super-fight between Leon Edwards and McGregor is something European fans would undoubtedly turn out for.
