Fabian Edwards may not have dazzled, but he certainly delivered when it mattered most.
In a somewhat underwhelming display for the fans, the Bellator middleweight contender managed to secure a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over Aaron Jeffery on the main card of Bellator Champions Series: Belfast, held at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Edwards’ record now stands at 13-3 in MMA, with an impressive 9-3 record in Bellator.
Fabian Edwards Defeats Aaron Jeffery Over Three Rounds
The matchup between Edwards and Jeffery carried significant weight, being labeled as a title eliminator prior to the event. Following the decision, it was confirmed that Edwards had earned himself a shot at the title against Johnny Eblen.
“I’m coming,” declared Edwards in his post-fight interview, addressing his upcoming title bout with Eblen. Reflecting on his past encounter with Eblen in September, where he suffered his first professional KO loss, Edwards expressed determination to rectify his previous misstep.
For Edwards, the fight against Jeffery marked his return to the cage since the championship bout. Despite facing pressure from Jeffery against the cage throughout the match, Edwards managed to inflict significant damage and land impactful shots, ultimately securing the victory.
With this win, Edwards boasts an impressive record of 4-1 in his last five fights, including notable victories over seasoned veterans such as Lyoto Machida and Gegard Mousasi.
In contrast, Jeffery finds himself with a record of 1-2 in his last three performances. Although he bounced back from a decision loss to John Salter with a victory over Dalton Rosta in August, Jeffery was unable to secure the win against Edwards in their recent showdown.
