Fabian Edwards has been pulled from his expected upcoming bout against Marian Dimitrov. The fight was to take place at Bellator Dublin.
Instead, he will face former UFC light heavyweight champion and Brazillian icon Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida in may on the promotions stacked London card at the OVO arena.
The battle-tested Edwards is returning to action following a loss to current title challenger Austin Vanderford and is looking to get back on track in front of his fellow countrymen against “The Dragon”, telling the mirror :
“I’m going in there for a stoppage. Controlled aggression and I think I’ll stop him, to stop someone like that on your record it’s massive,”
Fabian Edwards to “Take Out” Machida
Machida himself is entering from a loss to current Bellator heavyweight champion Ryan Bader, and Edwards believes he can stop the ageing superstar early, stating :
“I’ve watched him, but I wasn’t like a mad crazy fan. I feel like he’s been doing the same things his whole career, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
Rather than trying to disrespect Machida, Edwards says he is merely confident in his abilities.
“Not in a disrespectful way, but I’m not going out there to show respect.”
“I’ll go in there to take him and out and show respect after the fight is done.”
“It’s been a long time since I’ve fought an actual striker and I think I’ll be able to stop him in the second round.”
With a card that hosts a welterweight title bout for the ages including UK superstar, Micheal Venom Page. He takes on 26-0 Ukrainian combatant Yaroslav Amosov in the main event, This on will be a real treat for their UK fans.
It will be free to watch live for UK viewers. This is BBC Three thanks to Bellators new deal with the broadcasting giants.
