Cage Warriors makes its long-awaited return to Wales. Touching down in the Welsh capital this Friday. The brand famous for its yellow gloves will boast a nine-fight card full of talent. Here we outline just a few of the names we recommend you keep watch on during the Cage Warriors 156 show.
Reece McEwan
It should be known that we here at Combat Sports UK are big admirers of the man from Scotland. However, it’s for a good reason. McEwan has taken Cage Warriors by storm since his debut last year. Competing in the yellow gloves three times, he has won three times. Finishing two of his wins via submission.
6-1 as a professional, McEwan finds himself within touching distance of a shot at Cage Warriors bantamweight gold. An impressive win here for the Scot would make him almost undeniable. Considering he also holds an amateur win over current champion Caolan Loughran, it’s one all parties involved would love to run back.
Back to Friday, McEwan has a fierce test on his hands as he faces Leonardo de Oliveira (8-5). The Brazilian hasn’t been in great form of late, but his previous experience proves the qualities he holds. With six finishes, five via submission, de Oliveira is a problem on the canvas.
Milad Ahady
Turning professional in 2017. A combination of factors has meant Ahady has only fought six times since. More active recently, Ahady is finally showing his talents. 5-1 since 2017, when he does compete he usually gets the job done.
Joining Cage Warriors in April of last year. The featherweight has been flawless in his first two bouts. Securing a pair of unanimous decision victories over Antonio Sheldon and Tom Mearns respectively. Looking to make it three in a row, Ahady takes on Marcondes Bastos (4-4).
With big career wins to his name already, including an amateur victory over Cage Warriors favourite Tobias Harila. Ahady knows what it takes to get the job done. An impressive showing in Wales, and he’s on the right career trajectory.
Ghassan Abdenabi
The Netherlands’ Abdenabi makes his first Cage Warriors walk this Friday. Competing for the first time in MMA since 2019. The 31-year-old light heavyweight walks straight into the fire. 4-0 as a professional, he has finished three of the fights, two via TKO.
Standing at 6’4”, Abdenabi is a rangy fighter who uses his tools to his advantage. Yet to taste defeat in his entire mixed martial arts career. Abdenabi will be keen to keep things that way.
On the opposite side of the cage to the Dutchman will be an extreme test. With Andy Clamp (11-2) looking to bounce back and inject his name back into title contention. Cage Warriors are currently without a light heavyweight champion. So an emphatic win here could see the victor enter the championship fray.
