This Saturday, UFC 284 takes place in Perth, Australia, as Islam Makhachev defends his lightweight strap against featherweight champion and P4P king Alexander Volkanovski. Also, in the co-main event, Yair Rodriguez fights Josh Emmett for the interim Featherweight title to determine who Volkanovski will defend his title against in his next fight.
Here are the top 5 reasons to watch UFC 284 this Saturday!
Pound for Pound Contention
Alexander Volkanovski is the pound-for-pound best fighter on the planet, and that title is on the line. Islam Makhachev is the 2nd ranked fighter on the pound-for-pound list, so not only are championship stakes on the line, but also to settle who’s the best fighter on the planet at this very moment.
Double Bubble at UFC 284
Not only is the lightweight title on the line but so is an interim featherweight title. Due to Volkanovski moving up in weight, the featherweight’s future remains uncertain, so the UFC decided to offer up an interim title for Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett. Having an interim title means many things. If Volkanovski decides to stay at lightweight and vacate his title, then that would give us a new champion as the interim champion would be promoted. The last time that happened was when Robert Whittaker was the interim champion but then got promoted after George Saint Pierre vacated his belt at middleweight.
Wrestle Mania
Dagistani wrestle will once again have its time to prove its world renowned dominance in the form of Makhachev. Makhachev’s wrestling isn’t all lay and prey. It’s the fury in the takedown. The violent ground and pound. Similar to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Makhachev’s wrestling is very dominant and is one of the reasons he comfortably beat Charles Oliveria.
UFC 284 Will Be Stand and Bang Galore
If you look at Josh Emmett’s highlight reel, he’s quite clearly got the touch of death in his fists. Yair Rodriguez’s fighting style is one of the most flamboyants styles in MMA. Spinning kicks, Backward elbow knockouts, head-kick knock-outs. The lot. Emmett, on the other hand, he’s got terrifying power in his hands. Aggressive, fast, and explosive. That sentence describes both Emmett’s fighting style and Rodrigeuz’s highlight reel. You’d be a fool to think this fight goes the distance!
UFC 284 Takes Place Back Down Under
This is the first time in 3 years since the UFC has been back to Australia. Israel Adesanya became the Middleweight champion last time the UFC was down under, and that fight and card did not disappoint. Second, British fans and Australian fans are one of the most passionate groups of fans. They support their own like nobody else. Granted, they do get out of hand, but this is fighting. Nothing is off the table if you’re attending cage fighting. Those fans will be starving for blood and will be shouting a screaming, so the crowds are going to be awesome.
