Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to face former Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers in a boxing exhibition bout on Feb. 25.
Despite being retired from boxing, Mayweather has still traveled the world entertaining exhibition bouts with former fighters, kickboxers, and influencers. The 45-year-old will now face Chalmers, who featured in the MTV show Geordie Shore.
After closing the curtain on his reality TV career, Chalmers transitioned into mixed martial arts, making his MMA debut in May 2017. The power-puncher worked his way to a record of 5-2 with wins on BAMMA and Bellator. Since then, the 35-year-old Geordie has turned to boxing, making his debut last year.
Floyd Mayweather Talks Aaron Chalmers Bout
The announcement comes days after Mayweather announced he would be facing British Muay Thai standout Liam Harrison. Due to ongoing knee issues, Harrison was unable to follow through with the bout.
“I was originally supposed to face a different opponent, but injuries happen and I’m glad that Aaron Chalmers could step up so that we could give the fans what they want,” said Mayweather.
“The fans in the UK have always been great to me and supported me throughout my career, so an event like this has been a long time coming. I’m excited to add more history to the O2 Arena in London.”
Chalmers has been eagerly waiting for an opportunity to display his boxing credentials, and opportunities don’t come bigger than facing arguably the greatest boxer of all time.
“I’ve been training with Adam Booth in the boxing gym and I’m eager to make a name for myself in the boxing world.
“I jumped on this opportunity immediately. It’s an honour to share the ring with one of the greatest fighters of all time and I’m definitely going to take advantage of it.”
