The former unified and more recently former WBC world champion has been recorded being removed from a pub and collapsing outside. This follows Fury’s defeat to now undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk. Fury has been known to not live the cleanest lifestyle outside of the ring seen by his weight gain between fights. However, this footage is cause for concern.
Tyson Fury Issues With Substances
This video shows a clearly very drunk Tyson Fury being escorted out of the pub then proceeding to collapse. Now, it’s not exactly uncommon for fighters between camps to enjoy themselves and indulge in their vices. And given that the Usyk rematch isn’t until December he is well within his rights to do so. We, also don’t know the full story of what actually occured.
However, there are reasons to be concerned particularly with Tyson Fury. The main cause for concern is that Fury has a history of mental health issues and documented substance abuse issues. This was seen following his win over Wladmir Klitshcko in 2015 where he tested positive for nandrolone and cocaine. Fury, also pulled out of the Klitshcko rematch and gained a massive amount of weight.
He then spent the following 2 years dealing with depression, substance abuse, and binge eating. This was a time when no one thought Tyson would ever box again. However, he would eventually bounce back successfully battling through the depression and shed most of the extra weight. He would then return to boxing and the rest is history.
What Does This Mean For Fury?
So, with this footage this could be the signs of another downward spiral. Usyk is the first man to hand Tyson Fury a professional loss and this could have mentally impacted Fury. Fury has always been very confident and very proud of his undefeated record and losing that may have hit Fury hard. There’s also the fact that the Usyk fight was the most we’ve seen Fury hurt and struggle with an opponent. So this also may have caused issues for Fury
But, this could have nothing to do with mental health issues and Fury just enjoyed himself a bit too much. And hopefully that is this case but it’s also possible that is the beginning of another spiral for Fury. We shall see in a few months down the line if this is the start of more troubles for Fury. And, if Fury goes into the Usyk rematch whilst not being in the right head space things could go very badly for him. Or Fury may decide not to do the Usyk rematch.
So, there are different ways this behaviour could be interpreted. Is this the beginning of another spiral for Fury? or did he simply just enjoy himself a bit too much? We shall see in the coming months.
