In a new documentary, former UFC fighter Kay Hansen bravely opens up on life growing up being sexually assaulted by her father.
Many know Hansen from her time competing inside the UFC octagon, but with her new Youtube documentary, she aims to give viewers a closer look into her life behind the curtains. The intention is not only to give a glimpse into her life but to share her story with the hope of helping other victims who are dealing with the trauma of sexual assault.
The full 23-minute documentary of “Diary: Kay Hansen” can be found on the Invicta Fighting Championship Youtube Channel. Since the release one day ago
The film entitled “Diary: Kay Hansen” not only shows Hansen’s journey in MMA but the journey of escaping a past that was filled with trauma. The 23-minute-long film can be seen on the Invicta Fighting Championship YouTube channel, with fighters, former fighters, analysts, and fans all showing love and support towards Hansen for courageously telling her story.
Kay Hansen Tells Her Story
Hansen shared some words following the release of the documentary.
“This documentary was a big step for me, not necessarily as a fighter, but as a person. My successes and struggles have all been in the public eye for many years, but everyone has a story behind the scenes,” she wrote. “I was raped/SA by my father as a teenager for years. Fighting/training was my escape, and the only form of reality I really had control over.”
The 22-year-old detailed her hard upbringing and coming out of the other side after dealing with an abusive father, encouraging more to speak up and take inspiration from her own journey. She also revealed her journey into mixed martial arts and what possessed her to walk through the doors of an MMA gym for the first time.
“I never spoke up about the abuse I endured due to the fear of repercussions that may follow. I tell my story, not to “help people get to know me,” but to use the platform my sport has given me to inspire courage in someone who is, or once was, in a similar situation,” she wrote. “Sexual abuse is far too common, but often times swept under the rug. You do not have to go through this alone. You deserve peace and justice. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel.”

Hansen made her UFC debut in 2020, which looked promising when she secured a stoppage victory over Jinh Yu Frey. However, since then, she dropped three back-to-back fights resulting in her being cut from the promotion and being re-signed by Invicta FC.
