Forrest Griffin honoured his former opponent Stephan Bonnar in a Twitter post following his death on December 22nd, aged 45.
Griffin and Bonnar, both UFC Hall of Famers, clashed in the TUF 1 Finale in 2005.
The fight was shown live on Spike TV in the USA and would go on to be one of the greatest fights of all time, saving the UFC from millions of dollars in debt and transcending the sport into the mainstream.
Dana White described it as “the most important fight in UFC history”.
In a Twitter post, the 43-year-old said: “Stephan was a lot of things: He was always the most interesting person in the room, he had the biggest heart, and most importantly, he was my friend. I always loved it that people got excited when they found out we were really friends. I’ll always miss you, brother.”
