The second instalment of the Four Nations Tournament concluded today, with some exciting prospects heading into finals tomorrow, here’s a recap of the action!
What Went Down at The Four Nations Tournament
Day two saw a total of 38 senior, and 49 youth match ups starting from 10am, through until 5pm. With such an action-packed schedule, a plethora of talent emerged as outstanding today. Day two also saw a highly insightful Q & A session hosted by Nick Peet, with Dan Hardy and Brett Johns. The trio discussed topical issues ranging from lack of government funding for amateur mma, and an astounding appreciation for the level of talent current amateur mma presents.
Outstanding performances:
Lauren Allwood- Team Wales’ Lauren Allwood kicked off todays bouts by making quick work of her Irish opponent- finishing the fight in the very first round via rear naked choke. After some impressive striking exchanges, Allwood displayed some great wrestling and patience during a grappling exchange, leading to a back take and a textbook submission finish. As she left the cage Dan Hardy was seen to tell her he was “really impressed”, high praise from a legend in the sport. She advances to the next stage where she will take on former opponent Miriam Grubb.
Jack Humphries- Team England’s Jack Humphries took on Welsh representative Liam Davies today in a clash of two exciting prospects. The first round began with some cage wrestling, leading to a smooth back take by Humphries which ultimately lead to a rear naked choke finish. This win is highly impressive as Liam Davies has made a name for himself as an exceptional grappler in his respective weight category. A great win for Team England’s Jack Humphries.
Befan Hall- Team Wales’ Befan Hall took on Team Ireland’s Nathan Kelly in a highly anticipated bout pitting two exceptional prospects against each other. Nathan being known for his unorthodox and effective striking and Befan known for his impressive wrestling and grappling, this bout was guaranteed fireworks. The first round begins with some rapid striking exchanges, followed by some cage wrestling. Befan then takes control of the fight and gets a huge slam into a back take of Kelly, where he secured a rear naked choke finish. Befan defeated a huge Irish prospect in dominating fashion, a highly impressive victory for the young Welshman.
Alex Andrews- Team England’s Alex Andrews for sure made a name for himself in this bout as he advances to the finals tomorrow. With some highly impressive and powerful striking, Andrews wore down his opponent and looked for a standing guillotine finish early on. With this being unsuccessful, he followed up with a great display of powerful striking combinations, ultimately leading to a TKO finish. A great win for the young prospect.
