“The baddest man on the planet” Francis Ngannou is set to face the WBC heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury in a boxing bout for the ages.
Most pundits and other media members in the world of boxing are approaching this encounter with one question in mind, will Francis Ngannou be able to land that one big power punch? Technically, in the boxing ring, Francis should be no match for the vastly more experienced Tyson Fury however that one question will loom large until the opening bell rings.
Ngannou’s career took a massive turn after leaving the UFC in pursuit of better working conditions and singing with the PFL. As announced by Francis Ngannou’s representative, he will make more money from this fight alone than his entire career in the premium MMA organisation.
Francis Ngannou Releases Rematch Clause Details
The pair meet on October 28th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia as the opening for the Riyadh Season Festival. Francis Ngannou spoke on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani about his upcoming fight where he confirmed that bout would count on each man’s professional boxing record but said his team may speak to the WBC about putting the belt on the line even though “he doesn’t care about” it.
In the interview with Ariel Helwani, the Batie, Cameroon native explained that “there is a potential rematch clause. I don’t exactly know how to explain in that language, but yes, there is a rematch clause inside it.”
The fight has caused a divided split opinion among boxing fans as there are those who believe that the WBC world heavyweight champion should not be fighting a boxing novice. Others believe that “the greatest boxer of his generation” rightfully received special permission to have this money-making opportunity in the crossover fight against the former UFC heavyweight champion.
Ngannou claimed that any rematch between the pair won’t happen before his Professional Fighter’s League MMA debut rumoured to be early next year.
Tyson Fury’s plans after the fight still remain up in the air as Frank Warren told TalkSport this past weekend that it “depends who holds the belts” when discussing Fury’s pursuit of undisputed gold.
