Francis Ngannou impressed the boxing world by putting on a tremendous showing against Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia. Even in defeat, the former UFC champion proved numerous doubters wrong as he took the WBC champion the distance. Many people were surprised when Ngannou didn’t get his hand raised. It was an excellent look for MMA, and Daniel Cormier explains why Dana White and the UFC will like what they saw.
Francis Ngannou Vs Tyson Fury
The fight on Saturday was highly reminiscent of the mega clash between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather in 2017. Not many experts and pundits gave Ngannou a chance going into the contest. However, Ngannou showed he was more than capable of competing at a high level. The former UFC heavyweight king came into the fight well-prepared with a solid game plan. It was a good look for the MMA world and hopefully draws more eyes to the sport.
Daniel Cormier On Ngannou’s Performance
Cormier is an icon in MMA and has been very successful in the sport. He has won both the light-heavyweight and heavyweight titles in the UFC. It is safe to say he knows what he is discussing regarding combat sports. Speaking on DC and RC, the former champion explains why Ngannou’s performance benefits the entire MMA world.
“You see Junior dos Santos, Izzy, Kamaru, the legend Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture,” Cormier said. “So many great mixed martial artists were in attendance last weekend to watch Francis Ngannou do something unprecedented, unexpected, and did turn out better than anyone ever could have expected.
“There’s this idea that the UFC is upset that Francis Ngannou did what he did. Why would they be?” Cormier continued. “Francis Ngannou uplifted the entire sport last weekend. Francis Ngannou went out there as a mixed martial arts world champion, fought the lineal heavyweight champion of the world, and lost by split decision.”
