Francis Ngannou is coming off an impressive boxing debut against Tyson Fury. Ngannou put on an outstanding performance, and the fight was very competitive. He is a former heavyweight champion who has fought some heavy hitters. In a recent interview with The Last Stand, he talks about Fury’s power.
Francis Ngannou On Fury’s Power
Ngannou is an absolute specimen of a human being and is a sensational athlete. Many people were wondering how Ngannou would perform inside the ring. Knowing how an MMA fighter will hold up in a boxing ring is always challenging. It’s because MMA fighters have often struggled when facing a boxer. An example of this is when Conor McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather. McGregor had his moments but came up short in the ring. Ngannou has fought many powerful punchers. Yet he said Fury hits the hardest out of all his opponents.
“Fury punches pretty good. I ate some of his shots – he punches very strong. He was wearing 10oz gloves because MMA fights are 4oz gloves. In boxing, it’s 10oz., so far, he is the top [hard hitter.]”
How Does It Compare To The UFC
Ngannou is a tremendous hitter but can always take a powerful punch. He has been in the Octagon with some monsters. Ngannou has gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Stipe Miocic and Ciryl Gane. The big difference is the gloves; in boxing, they are 10oz gloves, and in MMA, they are 4oz. Ngannou talks about how Fury compares to the heavyweights in the UFC.
“I was [feeling] pretty good, I mean, I have watched Fury many times. I have watched him take a strong hand, go down, unconscious, and then come back.
So, I knew [I could knock him down. I was expecting [more] because I was looking at him; his eyes were open, and he seemed like he was all conscious.”
