The manager of Francis Ngannou, Marquel Martin, is still hopeful of a fight with current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
MMA fans have been anxiously waiting for over three years for a potential matchup between Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis ‘The Predator’ Ngannou. The likelihood of this super fight is now questionable due to current circumstances.
Since then, contractual disputes have meant Francis Ngannou walked away from the UFC and pursued new avenues with the PFL and now will take boxing to compete inside a boxing ring.
Ngannou has a boxing bout scheduled for October 28th against the WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, Jones currently has a fight booked against Stipe Miocic in November at UFC 295 in Madison Square Gardens in the organisation’s 30-year anniversary show.
Francis Ngannou Manager Speaks to The MMA Hour
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Marquel Martin had his say on the pair’s face-to-face meeting at PFL 5 in June. “I think that timing was just interesting, that obviously [Jones] was cornering Maurice Greene and obviously PFL is going to have us out,” Martin stated.
“But just being there, it almost felt like a tease for me, just sitting there. It was like, ah, this is what we’ve talked about, this is what we wanted, this is what we asked for. We literally tried to get that fight for three years. Three years. I think it’s still a possibility. I know that sometimes maybe cooler heads prevail. I’m hoping that Dana [White] somehow sees this, we want to make that fight.
“Let’s do that fight. The world deserves and wants to see that fight. Again, he’s one of the greatest promoters out there. We’re not the ones saying no to that fight, just know that.” (H/T MMAFighting)
