Francis Ngannou isn’t losing sleep over Dana White‘s opinions. Despite a split decision loss to Tyson Fury, Ngannou remains unfazed. He’s more curious about what the UFC CEO has to say. Ngannou’s near-upset in his first pro-boxing match spoke volumes, raising questions about his exit from the UFC.
But Ngannou is indifferent. “Who cares?” he said on The MMA Hour. “Dana White feels like he feels. Personally, I feel great.”
White had criticized Ngannou’s move, accusing him of dodging a fight with heavyweight champ Jon Jones. Ngannou found humor in White’s claims, especially considering his remarkable performance against Fury. “We know Dana is Dana,” Ngannou said. “He said what he said, which most of the time doesn’t mean anything.”
Yet, Ngannou acknowledged the power dynamics within the UFC. He pointed out that some fighters lack individuality, becoming puppets in a system where they strive to please the boss. Ngannou refused to be one. “I can’t be anybody’s puppet. I’m too big for that. I’m too proud for that.”
Francis Ngannou: A Reflection on Leaving the UFC
Reflecting on his departure from the UFC, Ngannou felt a sense of liberation. “Why did I even put so much energy into a relationship that wasn’t working?” he pondered. He found peace in his decision, asserting his choice was about his principles and desires, not pleasing others.
In the aftermath of his boxing debut, Ngannou stands tall, unburdened by regrets. His confidence remains unshaken, regardless of White’s remarks. For Ngannou, the path he chose was clear: to pursue his goals and principles, leaving behind a system that no longer resonated with him.
In the face of criticism and skepticism, Ngannou remains steadfast in his choices, finding peace in his decisions. As he embarks on a new chapter, the question lingers: Will his path outside the UFC lead him to greater heights, proving that true success lies in following one’s principles, regardless of the challenges faced along the way?
