Marquel Martin – the representative for Francis Ngannou – has said that the former UFC champion will receive more money for fighting Tyson Fury than he did in his UFC career.
Ngannou will face Fury in a boxing match on October 28th in Saudi Arabia. It will be his first fight since January 2022 when he beat Ciryl Gane to retain the UFC heavyweight title. He went on to leave the promotion after a contract dispute and signed for the PFL in May this year. His PFL contract has allowed him to make the fight with Fury.
Ngannou Rep Promises Huge Payday
In his appearance on The MMA Hour, Martin discussed Ngannou’s projected earnings with Ariel Helwani. He said: “The bag is so big, he may actually drop it on the way to the bank. This is exactly what we planned and visualised, so we’re happy.”
Martin was asked if Ngannou would make more money from the Fury fight than in his entire UFC career. He responded by saying: “Oh my God. I mean, by far. By multiples. Even while being champion, he would have had to fight multiple times just to [be in this ballpark].”
According to Martin, Ngannou will be paid more than what he would have received if he stayed with the UFC and fought Jon Jones, and claimed that the haters will “be proven wrong again.”
Francis Ngannou vs Tyson Fury
As of now, Fury’s WBC title will not be on the line, and it still isn’t clear whether this fight will count towards his professional record. However, Martin and Fury’s promoter Frank Warren have insisted that this will not be an exhibition.
“This is an actual fight. What happens with the WBC belt, we plan on talking with the WBC to get licensed. That’s our plan, and you never know, we may have the opportunity to maybe put his belt on the line. I don’t know, that’s for his side,” said Martin.
This fight will undoubtedly be watched by millions of people around the world. It will make for a big spectacle, and many fans are happy that Ngannou got what he wanted. Like any other crossover fight though, it has drawn criticism especially from the world of boxing.
Former boxing world champion Carl Froch told BettingSites.co.uk: “So it’s another crossover fight. Load of rubbish. We don’t want to see that fight. We want to see Tyson Fury in there with Oleksandr Usyk.”
Unfortunately for Froch, money talks louder than the critics in this case.
