PFL have announced that the heavyweight winner this weekend will be facing Francis Ngannou when he returns to MMA.
This weekend PFL host their huge PFL vs Bellator Champs event this weekend in Riyadh. A historic event which will be the first major MMA event in Saudi Arabia. Champions of both organisations will clash in an attempt to seize the throne.
Francis Ngannou vs Who?
The main event involves the Brazilian Renan Ferreira and UFC veteran Ryan Bader. Ferreira won the PFL Tournament last year in violent fashion against experienced Russian Denis Goltsov and now he faces Bader another man with vast experience across MMA. The American was 15-5 in the UFC before debuting in Bellator in 2017. Last year he defeated an ageing MMA Icon in Fedor Emelianenko to keep his Bellator heavyweight belt.
The pair have a great spot in the main event out in Saudi Arabia and now there is a huge opponent waiting once the belt is claimed.
Francis Post UFC
Since leaving the UFC Francis Ngannou has been talk of the town in the world of heavyweight boxing and produced a monstrous performance against Tyson Fury at the back end of last year. Elite British heavyweight Anthony Joshua is his next opponent on March 8th in the same location as this weekend. What happens after the Joshua fight is unknown particularly if he wins but now with this announcement from PFL there is a clear pathway back into MMA.
Ngannou never lost his UFC heavyweight crown and his last loss in MMA came in 2018 in a forgettable fight with Derrick Lewis. He has wins over heavyweight greats like Stipe Miocic and Cain Velasquez alongside wins over current top contenders Cyril Gane and Curtis Blaydes. His story is astounding and will almost definitely be a film one day and his return to MMA will have the eyes of the world fixated.
