Interview With Fraser Giblin
Fraser, your days out from making your mixed martial arts debut. How are the emotions and nerves holding up just a few days out?
I’d say my emotions and nerves are up and down, but overall, im feeling confident. I started Karate and Boxing at a younger age to help try to control my ADHD, which eventually led to MMA as I grew older.
For the readers who will just be getting to know you, give them a brief background on your journey into MMA and why it was a path you decided to pursue.
I started Karate and Boxing at a younger age to help try to control my ADHD, which eventually led to MMA as I grew older.
You will meet Stuart Murray, who will also be making his debut. Does it make it slightly easier knowing your opponent is going through all the same emotions as you are?
Yeah, definitely. We’re all human, so knowing he’s experiencing the same ups and downs does make it easier.
Fraser Giblin Talks Training
How long have you been actively training, and how did you know the time was right to take the leap and get your first fight booked?
Me and my brother have been training for about seven years. I’m taking the leap now as my brother fought on the last show, and seeing that made me want to fight, so I feel now is the right time.
Debuts can be a big thing in one’s MMA journey. Can we expect to see good support behind you on Saturday night?
Yeah, I’d say I’ve got good support behind me for the fight. It’s only family and a few family friends, but it’s only my first fight, and that’s the support that matters most to me. I’ve got plenty of time to build more support in the future, but family is the foundation, I think.
Although you’ve yet to make the walk, have you set any small goals/targets for yourself? Where would you like to be if we spoke again in 12 months?
I’ve not thought much of goals/targets recently, I feel as if I’ve met all the ones I set for myself so far, but I guess I’d say it’s just continuing to improve as a person and as a martial artist. If we spoke again in 12 months, I’d like to have more fights and experience behind me, maybe thinking of turning pro and adding to that.
Finally, just highlight what it would mean to you to get that first win under your belt on Saturday night.
A debut win would be the perfect start, something to snowball off and continue the streak.
