Henry Cejudo breaks down his UFC 298 loss and highlights his cardio as one of the main reason he lost against Merab Dvalishvili
The former Bantamweight champion who came out of retirement last year has suffered consecutive losses to former champion Aljamain Sterling and Dvalishvili.
‘Triple C’ broke down the fight on his YouTube channel and criticised his own performance as he reacted to the fight for the second time since his loss.
Cejudo Says Poor Cardio Cost Him in Dvalishvili Defeat
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Cejudo said “I feel like that I’m already breathing hard” when watching the first round of the fight against Dvalishvili.
The former bantamweight champion went on to say “You can already tell that I’m puffing quite a bit. That shouldn’t be happening because Merab didn’t do anything special in round one.”
“Even though I controlled round one why am I breathing so heavy? Even in the second round I look so unbalanced, even though I won the first round I looked so fatigued, its wondering why I felt like that so soon”
“I was so exhausted after round one that I didn’t use as much wrestling as I would have liked. That’s my biggest strength and its why it’s bothering me so much. It’s fatigue on my side I can match Merab’s pace so why am I huffing and puffing this much, there was nothing drastic to make me feel that way.”
“It’s just fatigue, why am I attempting to wrestle in round three when my cardio has gone. If you’re not prepared for the wrestling side of things, fatigue will set in for anybody.”
What next for Cejudo?
Cejudo is currently winless since his return to the UFC last year after his fights against Dvalishvili and Sterling. ‘Triple C’ will be hoping that he is able to bounce back from these setbacks and is able to reignite a winning run to put himself into the title contention in the bantamweight division.
He has currently called out UFC Flyweight Brandon Moreno out to a fight in September as the Mexican weighs up a move to the Bantamweight division.
Cejudo said: “Brandon lets run it back, were both on a two fight losing streak, there’s history there, I would love a fight with you Brandon, let’s settle the score once and for all.”
