Interview With Gabi Gomez
It’s fight week. Talk to me about how you’re feeling just five days out from fight night. Is fight week usually a stressful time for you, or is it exciting?
I feel pretty good and sharp. Fight week is always exciting, and looking forward to Saturday night.
2022 has seen you have two fights thus far, going (1-1) and attaining CWA gold. How would you evaluate your year in the competition thus far?
I feel like it’s been a great year for me, but it could have been better.
Your latest outing came against one of the UK’s most talented prospects in Levi Batchelor. What lessons did you take away from that fight that you are eager to show you’ve corrected on Saturday’s fight with Jack Axworthy?
I took a lot of experience from that fight. I took that fight in a very short time of one week. When I won the CWAC belt a week and a half, I fought Levi in everything because I am a better version of myself.
Gabi Gomez Talks Belt Collecting
You will have another opportunity on Saturday night to leave the UK with a belt strapped around your waist. Describe what attaining titles mean to you at amateur level. Does it add extra motivation for you in camp? Does it force you to get those extra miles in training camp?
It means a lot to me. It does add motivation and makes me come to Manchester Top Team to prepare for the fight or to Liliusbarnatt.
I noticed you spent some time in Thailand at the famous Tiger Muay Thai. Talk to me through that experience, and how much do you feel that has benefited your game?
Yes, it was a very good experience for me, it was hard, but I had good times there. I trained very well in Thailand, honestly, in striking.
Saturday night, Jack Axworthy is the man standing across the cage from you. How do you feel about this fight overall and Jack’s skill set? Have you had the opportunity to break his style down from the previous tape?
About the fight, I feel sharp and ready. About Jack, I think he is a good fighter. Saturday night is going to be fun.
Opposition
In your own mind, what are the keys to victory over Jax Axworthy?
Precision, constancy and pressure.
For those who haven’t had the opportunity to watch you fight before, let us know what was missing. What can we expect from you?
They are going to miss seeing a great fight, and from me, you can expect violence and creativity.
Lastly, can the viewers get an official fight prediction from you?
I will be looking for a finish.
