Gareth “Gatchy” Williams made his Bare Knuckle Boxing debut in style, securing a first-round TKO victory over Paul Hilz. His impressive victory has left fans wondering: what is next for the Welshman?
BKB 39: Gareth “Gatchy” Williams Makes His Debut
BKB 39 was the final show under the official BKB banner. This comes after larger promotion, BYB Extreme, merged with the company a few weeks ago. BKB fighters will now fight under the ruleset of BYB, in the infamous Trigon. An exciting future for the promotion as things seem to be getting bigger and better.
Paul Hilz vs Gareth Williams:
Long-term BKB fighter, Paul Hilz, squared off against Gareth Williams in a title eliminator fight last Saturday. Hilz posed a tough test for any debuting fighter, with 13 previous bare-knuckle bouts under his belt, and 7 of these victories by way of stoppage. Despite this, Williams made his plans clear leading up to the fight and predicted an early finish. He walked into fight week with confidence in his preparations, with combat veteran Jack Marshman in his corner, he named the duo “the unstoppable force”.
Round one begins with Williams immediately taking the centre of the ring, forcing Hilz to fight on the back foot. They both exchanged a few shots until Williams landed a powerful right hand, sending Hilz to the canvas. Hilz being the tough fighter he is, beat the count and got back up to continue the fight. However, Williams put on the pressure and landed great combinations, forcing Hilz to the canvas for the second time. The referee waved off the bout immediately after, declaring a TKO stoppage in favour of Williams.
What’s Next?
This was a title eliminator bout as Williams squared off against a grizzled BKB veteran in Paul Hilz, after a last-minute change of opponent. Ultimately, it was an impressive win for the debuting fighter. This means his next fight will have a BYB title on the line. Welsh fans will be eager to know when Williams will return. With a Cardiff event scheduled later this summer, could we see a quick turnaround for the Welshman? Whoever Gareth Williams faces off against next, one thing we can predict is an entertaining fight. A forward fighter who hunts the finish, seemingly the perfect style match for the BYB Trigon.
Stay tuned for updates as we follow Welsh BKB star Gareth “Gatchy” Williams!
