After Jack Humphries claimed Garon Shemar was “easy work”, Shemar claims his opponent next Saturday is “very beatable”.
Thankfully for fans, the pair will settle their differences in an amateur bantamweight clash at Golden Ticket Fight Promotions 22 on June 3rd, which will see the winner fight for the gold strap in their next outing.
Ahead of fight night, we had the chance to catch up with Garon Shemar to see how he’s feeling and his thoughts on his opponents recent remakrs.
Interview With Garon Shemar
Garon, we speak again, and on the back end of a title win in your last outing at Badmofo 5. Talk to me. How have things been since then, and can you just reflect on how you feel about your performance over Jack
I’m definitely happy with my win over Jack Atherton. Initially, I was a little bit harsh on myself because of some mistakes that I made during the fight, but looking back at it now, I’m glad I got to show everyone how much I improved after taking a year out.
You mentioned that you overcame a lot of negative thoughts last time out. Just explain what that win has done to your confidence.
I’d say my last fight proved to myself and everyone else that I deserve to be competing with the best amateurs in the UK. Before my last fight, I honestly wasn’t sure if I could compete with the best.
Moving onto Golden Ticket Fight Promotions 22 on June 3rd. How happy are you now to have returned and now getting the activity you were looking for?
I’m very happy. Activity is what I wanted, especially after me not competing for a whole year.
Garon Shemar Talks Jack Humphries
You will square off with a confident Jack Humphries in two weeks’ time. How do you feel about the matchup and Jack as a whole?
I mean, there’s no denying Jack is a good fighter. I just don’t see anything special. He’s very beatable, in my opinion.
I spoke with Jack just a few days ago, and he said a bout with you was “easy work”. Do you feel he’s disrespecting and looking past you? Do you have a response to that?
Of course, it makes things more interesting between ourselves and for the people watching, but I see through the facade, to be honest. I don’t see it as disrespect, but I do think overlooking me is a big mistake. I just hope he brings that energy into the cage because it’ll be pretty embarrassing if his game plan is just to try and dry-hump his way to a win.
Having watched tape back of Jack, where do you feel his biggest strengths and weaknesses lie?
He’s well-rounded, but I wouldn’t say he’s exceptional anywhere. His biggest weakness is thinking he’s going to walk through me. He’ll be in for a shock.
Finally, what can the GTFP faithful expect to see from this fight on June 3rd? Why should they remain in their seats?
Expect to see another dominant victory from myself.
