Geoff Neal has pulled out of his fight with Ian Garry at UFC 292, according to a video posted to Ian Garry’s social media.
‘Machado’ was clearly frustrated as he received a call notifying him that Neal had pulled out of their bout on August 19th. “The moment you said that, you sent that message, I knew it. Geoff Neal’s a b***h. What is God showing me right now? Is this God giving me what I originally asked for in Neil Magny? That is what I’m trying to work out in my mind right now.”
Ian Garry vs Neil Magny?
Neil Magny has also recently uploaded a social media post with the quote “When an opportunity of a lifetime presents itself, my must act within the lifetime of that opportunity” – Loren Landow.
Magny was originally the name on Ian Garry’s lips prior to his fight booking with Geoff Neal. If Magny has accepted the bout as a late replacement it would see Garry get the fight he longed for initially. It would be an opportunity for Garry to continue his impressive run. Victory would ensure that Garry continued his ascent in the Welterweight rankings with Magny currently sitting at #11, two places higher than Garry.
Kevin Holland?
Kevin Holland has also taken to social media to suggest that he would be willing to step in and face Garry at a catchweight. Holland has built quite the reputation for stepping in at the last minute to save fights from falling off and has again shown a willingness to step up. Holland is possibly a bigger name in the division than both Magny and Neal despite only being one place higher in the rankings than Garry.
Stephen Thompson?
‘Wonderboy’ has yet to comment on the matter but there seems to be a high number of fans calling for Thompson to step in. ‘Wonderboy’ was supposed to fight on last week’s card against Michel Pereira but the latter missed weight by three pounds and ‘Wonderboy’ opted out of the fight. Thompson has received a wide backing from fans around the world as it remains unclear how he will be compensated for his cancelled bout.
UFC president Dana White stated in an interview today that Thompson would not be paid his ‘show money’ for the cancelled bout but that they were working on coming to an arrangement. UFC fans have shown their displeasure at the situation with Thompson stating that as he made weight for the bout, he was quite within his rights to withdraw from the bout. With Thompson being on weight and ready to fight, fans are not happy that a veteran like Thompson is not being looked after by the UFC.
Fans across social media are calling for ‘Wonderboy’ to step in at late notice to face Ian Garry in what would be sure be a fan friendly encounter.
What Next for Ian ‘Machado’ Garry?
Whoever the opponent, it appears that Ian Garry is determined to remain on the card. Garry is one of the hottest prospects in the welterweight division and will not want his momentum to slow due to an opponent pulling out. With numerous offers seemingly on the table, we should expect to see Garry remain on the card against TBC.
No matter which opponent from the list above receives the call and signs on the dotted line, the stylistic matchups are all appetising prospects.
