If you are attending British Fighting Championship 4, you don’t want to take your eyes off the Octagon when Geoff Pavey meets David Winiarski.
In what Pavey labels a “personal” matchup, he will seek redemption on October 21, and looks to avenge his loss to Winiarski. The pair met in 2021 with Winiarski earning a split decision win, which Pavey strongly disagrees with.
Ahead of the matchup filled with bad blood and tension, we had the chance to talk with Geoff Pavey. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Geoff Pavey
Next month, you return to compete on BFC. A cage that’s been good to you in the past. How much are you looking forward to getting in there and throwing down with David Winiarski?
I am extremely eager to get back in the BFC cage with Winiarksi. He was my debut fight two years ago, and I lost via split decision even though personally, I think I won. I mean, I wasn’t the one who couldn’t walk out of the cage and needed to be carried out.
David has a good resume and comes from a good gym in Scotland. When the promotion came to you with his name again, what were your initial thoughts on running it back?
As I said, he was my debut back in 2021, I think it was. I’ve asked every promoter on every show I’ve fought on since to make this rematch happen, but he has refused time and time again. I was the one who asked for this fight. It’s personal between me and David. This time, it is not going to the judges.
Geoff Pavey Talks David Winiarski
Now, assuming you had a look at David since the first fight, what do you see when watching his previous fights? Are you impressed with the improvements he’s made? Will he bring something new you’ve never seen before?
I’ve already beaten him, and although our records say different, we both know what happened. I’ve watched all his fights, and I wasn’t impressed at the calibre of opponents he has fought since me. I gave him the hardest fight he has had, and I’ve improved tenfold since then. It’s going to be a war.
In your most recent outing, you fell short of Jake Smythe. Did that one string, and how did you take that defeat given the bad blood heading into the fight?
That loss was hard to take, to be perfectly honest. I was dominating the fight. I got complacent and stepped in for a straight left with my hand down and got caught with a check hook. I won’t make that mistake twice. I was a little bit annoyed at the ref as I believe it was an early stoppage, especially for the main event title fight. I’d rather go out on my shield than have a fight stopped.
Last Time On BFC
Last time on BFC, you stopped Patryk Kaworw in the second round. Can the fans attending in Middlesborough expect to see the same thing from you? Give them a teaser.
Absolutely. The fight is scheduled for 5 x 3 minutes, but I don’t expect him to last more than 1. It is personal between me and David, and im coming to make a statement and amend that bogus split decision on my record.
Finally, leave us with your official prediction and any last words you may have with your opponent.
First-round stoppage. If he dies, he dies.
