George Kambosos Jr will return to home soil in New South Wales, Australia looking to make a statement to the Lightweight division.
Kambosos will take on Jake Wylie after previous opponent Daud Yordan pulled out on fight week due to an injury.
The Aussie is coming home now taking on a fellow Australian in Jake Wyllie. Wyllie is 16-0-0 with his only loss coming via TKO in 2023 but Wyllie isn’t here to make up the numbers. He has vowed to give Kambosos a competitive fight despite the mountain to climb in front of him.
“I woke up my girlfriend and said “I’m fighting George Kambosos!” On Saturday I become a Champion. I’m not here to participate, I’m here to takeover.” Wyllie has exclusively fought inside Australia with the highest level being national when he fought Dylan Emery for a national title.
Kambosos on the other hand is a veteran at world level competing in his non world title fight since 2020. The Australian has fought anyone and everyone in the division including Teofimo Lopez, Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko. Although Kambosos lost to both Lomachenko once and Haney twice it hasn’t discouraged him furthering his career.
“The way I look at it is it’s not wins and losses. It’s wins and listens. You keep getting up. We lose. Everybody loses in life everything. We lose every day,We keep bouncing back, and that’s how I am in my sport and it’s a sport. I’m a warrior in my chosen sport, and I keep doing what I do best. I keep stepping up and fighting the best fighters in the sport.”
Kambosos Jr has been very adamant that he wants to give the opportunity for Wyllie to cause a upset and claims his opponent is fit and ready.
“I want to give him a Rocky story. I want to give him the opportunity. He was meant to fight in three weeks, so he’s fit; he’s ready; he’s been sparring; he’s in good condition. Weight’s not going to be a problem for him. I want to change his life; give him an opportunity of a lifetime. Give him the Rocky story. But, of course, there won’t be a happy ending – a Rocky movie – in this one.”
George Kambosos Vs Jake Wyllie Undercard-
The undercard which starts at 8am in the United Kingdom has a lot to offer including the co-main event. This sees WBC champion Skye Nicholson put her title on the line to face off against Tiara Brown.
Nicholson has been on a tear smashing through the likes of Raven Champion and Sarah Mafoud with relative ease and has vowed to do the same to Brown after the two came face to face this week.
“I THINK SHE’S GOING TO BE RUDELY SHOCKED WHEN IT GETS TO ROUND TWO OR THREE AND SHE CAN’T HIT ME, AND I’M SMILING AT HER.”
“I think it will feel like the most satisfying win of my career,” Nicolson told The Ring. “It almost feels personal.”
This will be the 4th defence of Nicholson’s WBC title and she will surely be looking to unify the division if she comes out of Australia with a win this weekend. It will also be a homecoming for Nicholson getting to fight in Australia for the first time since 2022.
Tiara Brown will be looking to cause the upset herself this weekend and give Nicholson the first loss of her career. Brown is also undefeated with 6 more fights than Nicholson but hasn’t fought any higher than national level. Brown also is a part of the Overtime boxing outfit which offer a new type of promotion even offering an extra time round of fights go to a draw. Tiara hasn’t had to find out how the Overtime boxing rules work though as she is 18-0-0 and is looking to pierce the current impenetrable defence of Nicholson. The American boxer believes she smells fear when they came face to face earlier this week.
“I not only smelt fear in @skyebnic, I could see it. That’s why she kept her glasses on. Her bottom lip was going. She’s a coward. Her confidence is fake and she’s scared”
Brown Nicholosn isn’t the only banger women’s fight on the card because Nina Hughes will take the long trip to Cherneka Johnson’s backyard in a rematch. The two fought on a previous Kambosos undercard back in 2024 with Johnson winning via majority decision. Johnson won the first bout but has claimed to ensure everyone knows who the winner will be by the end of the 2nd fight.
“The way I’ve worked in this camp, I’m going to dominant Nina Hughes. I won the first fight and there will be no doubt this time around”
Hughes is planning for revenge and is looking to do it on home soil in front of her own fans and claim her belt back.
“She’s had my belt for 10 months. She’s had a touch. But I’m the better fighter and I’m here to get my belt back”
The Unfamiliar’s-
The remainder of the card sees the Heavyweight sensation Teremoana Jr return after 3 first round knockouts in a row including a win on Jai Opetaia’s undercard earlier this year.
Aussie Lightweight prospect Jayden Buan looks to make it 4-0 against Jordan Kasilieris.
Iman Khataev will aim to continue his 9 fight KO win streak when he faces Durval Elias Palacio.
Hometown favourite Hemi Ahio ,who’s featured on previous George Kambosos undercards, will also take on Aekkaphob Auraiwan in a Heavyweight clash.
