What a night of high-level grappling action at Grapplefest 15! The crowd at the arena was treated to a plethora of exciting matches before the much-anticipated title fights took center stage. And boy, did they deliver!
In the first title fight of the night, Shay Montague and Daniel Degroot went toe-to-toe in a fierce battle for the under 65kgs belt. Both fighters left it all out on the mats, but it was Montague who emerged victorious, earning the nod from the judges after a grueling contest.
Lightweight Title Showdown
Up next, Keith Krikorian and Sam McNally squared off for the promotion’s lightweight title. Originally slated to be part of a tournament, Krikorian and McNally did not disappoint in their one-on-one showdown. After a fast-paced and action-packed bout, Krikorian locked in a rear-naked choke, forcing McNally to tap out and earning himself the coveted belt.
Last but not least, the final title fight of the night saw Luke Griffith, one of several New Wave Jiu-Jitsu competitors in attendance, take on Santeri Lilius for the Grapplefest under 100kgs title. With his teammates having already found success earlier in the event, Griffith had a lot of pressure on his shoulders to continue their winning streak. But he rose to the occasion, relentlessly attacking Lilius’ legs before ultimately securing the victory with an inside heel hook submission.
