Gregory Rodrigues has big dreams after he defeated Brad Tavares on Saturday. The Brazilian scored a third-round knockout of Tavares on yesterday’s main card.
Previously, Rodrigues lost by way of knockout to Brunno Ferreira and beat Dennis Tiuliulin with elbows from back mount. Now, Rodrigues feels that he is back on track to attain his goal of a championship.
Gregory Rodrigues Wants UFC Championship After UFC Vegas 86 Win
After banking a $50,000 post-fight bonus, Rodrigues put the whole division on notice. He spoke to media after the event, and shared his plans to become champion in a few fights.
“If you see the way Dricus Du Plessis did, he started with Brad, and he did his job to get to the title,” Rodrigues told media after the fight. “I don’t know what the UFC is going to offer me, but I’m happy with everything they do, and they do a good job, but I already showed I belong at the top. “My goal is to be the champion of this division,” Rodrigues said. I want to be the king of this division. I’m going to take my time, and I believe the UFC already sees that, and they’re going to offer me good things.”
Middleweight Championship?
The middleweight division has a new champion, Dricus Du Plessis, after he defeated Sean Strickland by unanimous decision. However, where Rodrigues fits in is unclear, as DDP wants a spot at UFC 300, Adesanya is likely to return, and almost every middleweight contender is currently booked or just fought. Only time will tell where Gregory Rodrigues ends up.
