Tim Welch, the head coach of bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley has quelled the accusations of ‘greasing’. After his title defence at UFC 299, O’Malley was accused of greasing via Twitter by his opponent Marlon Vera.
UFC 299 went down two weeks ago and will live long in the memory of many. Headlined by a bantamweight title showdown as Sean O’Malley defended his championship gold against former foe Marlon Vera. With O’Malley walking away victorious dominating all five rounds.
After the bout, it seemed the bad blood still wasn’t put to rest as both men continued to trade verbals over social media. Vera would start the exchange by accusing O’Malley of ‘greasing’. The Ecuadorian’s tweet was as follows.
He then doubled down further on the claim when he was interviewed by Ariel Helwani. Saying ‘He was like grabbing a fish out of water.’
Head Trainer of Sean O’Malley Discusses Marlon Vera ‘Greasing’ Accusations
With O’Malley denying the claims and poking fun at Vera for the manner of the defeat. Some in the MMA world are still wondering if Vera’s allegations have some credence.
When speaking on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, O’Malley’s head coach and close friend Tim Welch was asked about the claims.
Asked whether O’Malley was upset by claims of Greasing or not, Welch responded. ‘I don’t think he’s truly upset.’ ‘I don’t think he has any true ill will towards him (Vera). He’s the same as me after the fights. Let’s be respectful, let’s be nice.”
‘How can you even say anything when you got outclassed that bad, like greasing? That was a little weird.’
Further dispelling that O’Malley has put grease in his hair to gain an advantage Welch went on to claim. ‘Even the lady who braided his hair commented on one of the posts, she said she used the normal amount of gel.’ While quoting along the lines of what the lady said. ‘I just used the normal amount of gel, I don’t know what you’re freaking out about.’
Finally is there any substance to Marlon Vera’s greasing claims towards Sean O’Malley?
