Henry Cejudo believes Gervonta Davis is fortunate to maintain his undefeated boxing record.
The former two-division UFC champion watched from home as the WBA lightweight titleholder aimed to improve to 31-0 against Lamont Roach at Barclays Center in New York on Saturday night.
‘Tank’ took a knee in the ninth round, but referee Steve Willis didn’t count it as a knockdown.
That decision proved crucial, as the fight ended in a majority draw. Had Roach been awarded a 10-8 round as expected by many, he would have secured a majority decision victory.
Henry Cejudo Calls for Protest After Controversial Decision in Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach Fight
Henry Cejudo spent most of his night watching the UFC card headlined by Manel Kape vs Asu Almabayev.
The 38-year0old voiced his frustration over an eye poke during Kape’s TKO victory at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Afterwards, Cejudo shifted his focus to Gervonta Davis, who was facing the toughest challenge of his career.
Like many fans, the former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion believed Roach deserved the win.
Following the fight, he urged the 25-1-2 boxer to protest the result and the referee’s controversial decisions. Speaking on X Cejudo wrote;
“He needs to protest that,”
“And he’s the winner, Lamont Roach. 100% need to protest that and put everybody on blast.
“Let’s see how fair the boxing commission is. #cleansport”
Henry Cejudo Calls for Rematch with Song Yadong
Henry Cejudo is coming off a controversial loss to Song Yadong at UFC Seattle last weekend.
The MMA legend suffered an eye poke that left him unable to continue after the third round. Despite the foul, referee Jason Herzong did not penalise Yadong, a decision he later admitted was a mistake.
This error proved costly, as Cejudo was handed a technical decision loss, costing him a potential $150,000.
UFC President Dana White quickly ruled out a rematch between Cejudo and Yadong, but that hasn’t stopped Henry Cejudo from pushing for a second fight, as well as a potential fight with former bantamweight champion Petr Yan. Speaking on the Believe You Me Podcast Cejudo said;
“I would love to run it back with him, but if I can’t fight him, I know Yan said May was open—I’d love that fight with Petr Yan,”
“You know what I’m saying? We could scrap it out—if my eye heals, I’ll be ready by May. Song already had his shot at Petr Yan, so give me Petr Yan, dude.”
