Henry Cejudo and Sean O’Malley; a beef that has rears its head every so often. In the build-up to his fight against Merab Dvalishvili, O’Malley would insult Cejudo on a podcast and interview with DC. However, after Dvalishvili dethroned O’Malley, Cejudo took the opportunity to kick O’Malley while he was down.
Henry Cejudo Tweets
And so after the result, Henry Cejudo put up a tweet insulting the former champion. He calls him “O’Methyl” insinuating that O’Malley looks like a meth addict. Cejudo also attacks O’Malley for his lack of grappling ability particularly failing to stuff takedowns. This was very evident in the fight against Dvalishvili where O’Malley struggled to deal with Merabs takedowns.
Cejudo also compared O’Malley to McGregor with his lack of wrestling prowess. That comparison doesn’t particularly work as McGregor at his peak had fairly good takedown defense. However, the comparison works more with the “Wrestling for Cokeheads” line with many suspecting McGregor of having issues with cocaine and O’Malley’s alleged meth-head look.
With this tweet, Cejudo may be gunning for a fight with O’Malley. A win over O’Malley would be great for Cejudo and put him in the title picture at 135lbs. As of today, Cejudo is ranked #6 at 135lbs in the UFC so a fight against O’Malley isn’t completely unreasonable and it would sell. The UFC would also be pretty willing to make this match up given it would benefit them for O’Malley to have a winnable fight over a legacy name like Cejudo.
The O’Malley fight is very risky for Cejudo who is aging and not the fighter he once was. Add to that just how dangerous O’Malley can be and there is a potential recipe for disaster. Maybe, Cejudo could exploit the gaps in O’Malley’s wrestling but Cejudo doesn’t have that same heavy-pressure style Merab has. We shall see if this amounts to anything or if this is just more empty noise from the king of cringe.
