UFC 292 has added a fan-friendly bantamweight matchup to its fight card on August 19.
The former two-weight division champion Cejudo wastes no time in making up for lost time. The 36-year-old will collide with Marlon “Chito” Vera in front of a loud, rowdy, sold-out Boston crowd at UFC 292 on Aug.19.
UFC President Dana White announced the official matchup via ESPN on Monday.
Henry Cejudo vs. Marlon “Chito” Vera Added to UFC 292
Cejudo broke his three-year absence from competition in May but fell short in his aim of re-capturing the 135-pound strap with a split decision loss to Aljamain Sterling. The ex-champion disclosed he intended to fight again but was eager to wait for Merab Dvalishvili to recover from hand surgery. After news that Dvalishvili wouldn’t be ready for some time, Cejudo moved to plan B.
Cejudo will now face Vera in a matchup that came out of the blue. The pair will be among the undercard of Sterling vs. Sean O’Malley, who headline for the bantamweight title.
In his most recent outing, Vera fell short to Cory Sandhagen in a rather lacklustre performance from the Ecuadorian, ending his four-fight winning streak. He had viciously defeated Dominick Cruz, Rob Font and Frankie Edgar before his loss.
A statement win over Cejudo at UFC 292 in Boston would most definitely catapult Vera’s name back into title contention. A challenge he will be ready to conquer.
