Hussein Abbas-Zade is set to make the walk this Saturday at Battle Arena 77 in Coventry, England.
Ahead of the fight, Hussein explained he was motivated by improving his skill-set in every area. The amateur MMA fighter will clash with Geoff Ogendo on fight night. Both fighters enter the bout after undergoing a long-period of inactivity, so fans can expect a recharged version of both athletes.
We had the opportunity to talk with Hussein Abbas-Zade prior to making his return. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Hussein Abbas-Zade
Next Saturday you return to the cage for the first time this year. Is there any reason why we’ve not seen you out this year, or have you just been resting your body and mind?
It had been a busy year: JitsButikk gig, Muay Thai grind, jiu-jitsu battles etc!
Last time out, you picked up your first victory of your professional career by beating Tobias Bohlin. Can you just highlight what that meant to you, and do you feel a sense of pressure on your shoulders now getting that first win under your belt?
I consider my encounter with Tobias to be my unofficial second professional MMA victory. In the fight before the judges were blinded by the hometown lights… However, lessons were learned and we moved forward.
What motivates you to get up, grind every day and put your body through these gruelling camps?
Becoming a better fighter in every aspect of this game motivates me a lot. Think of it as a superhero origin story, minus the spandex.
Hussein Talks Getting Into MMA
I like to ask those I’ve never spoken to on their journey into MMA. How did you find MMA, and why is it a path you decided to pursue?
My MMA saga started because of Corona’s boredom. Looking back, I owe that virus a high-five.
You will face Geoff Ogendo who’s been out of action since 2021. Give me your thoughts on this fight and what challenges you expect Geoff to present to you.
I’ve watched Geoff, and it seems we’ve both had a breather from the cage. I think this is a good fight for both of us. Fingers crossed for his health and readiness to step into the octagon and share the cage with me!
Finally, tell the viewers how you get it done next Saturday in Coventry, and what can people expect from you.
I am pretty sure everyone else in this card will be unleashing chaos in the arena, so I’ve decided to step up with a “boring” fight, granting the audience the break they all deserve.
